Bottle 500ml. w. swing top @ home.
Clear medium to dark amber colour with a large, frothy to creamy, initial speaking, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, bread, caramel, malty, tart berry notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, nutty, caramel, bread, alcohol warm notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Draught at the Ziemann dinner in Miltenberg. Stone mug. Creamy beige head. Hard to tell color but looks the typical brown from the top. Nice rich bready cake and prune-date aroma. A little spicy as well. Sweet malty flavor with nice sweetness. Not over the top or under-fermented. Full bodied and smooth. Good stuff overall. Solid and smooth. They also had the unfiltered 2009 version on tap and it was amazingly rich, fruity, and smooth. Pure dessert in a glass. the 2010 was a little more dry and drinkable, but lacked some of the complexity of the unfiltered and aged version. darkseduction (787) - Zweibrücken, GERMANY - OCT 20, 2008
Bottle 50cl. Pours an amber, almost copper coloured brew with small white head. Slight smoked malt nose first, then dried fruits, coffee, sherry. Nice complex composition, harmonic impression. Another one please! couchand (182) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - MAR 17, 2008
Sweet aroma, almost fruity.
Full sweet but light flavor, drinkable.
Floral and fruity taste, lack of head retention (in brewery’s ceramic mug).

Pours a dark brown colour with and medium off white head. Aroma of toasted almonds, spices, sweet malts and minor hops hindering. Initial taste is very toasty with lots of that nutty punch. Finishing with a sweet caramel taste and texture. Medium Body. Slight head retention. Awesome MoritzF (10255) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - FEB 18, 2007
(swing top bottle) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a short foamy off-white head. Slightly sweet toast-malty, nutty aroma with spicy, leafy and woody notes. Moderately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Slightly toasted, nutty and leafy taste; moderately sweet malty finish with a raisin-fruity aftertaste. The alcohol is warming but de facto not detectable. Quaffable Doppelbock (28.12.06). NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 15, 2007
Courtesy of Papsoe. Aroma is sweet and malty with slightly sharper sweet sugary cake notes that highlight creamy carrot cake icing. Very subtle, delightful and unusual aroma. The body is a red/brown/amber melange that holds a diminishing tan head. Spiced rum soaked apples highlight the fore. Cake-like malt base dominates the middle. Very clean and still dry despite the sweetness. Has some very faint spiced cider notes, but with a thicker bracing malt backbone. This is very delicate at times and yet amazingly flavorful. Extremely nice. pivnizub (11008) - Bochum, GERMANY - JAN 1, 2007
Flip-top bottle: Amber coloured, quite firm mid-sized off-white head; sweet malty, yeasty ("wooden"), spicy, slightly hoppy nose; delicate sweet flavour, medium bodied; slightly finish finish with raisins and almonds, well hidden, but a little bit warming, brandy-like alcohol, very late bitterness. A deceptive, moreish, dangerous Doppelbock.... Geiserich (4726) - Linz, AUSTRIA - DEC 5, 2006
Bottled: Sweet, flowerly and light fruity aroma. Light sourly hints. Brown to amber color. Malty, quite sweet flavor with brown sugar and fruity notes. Sweetish, light astringent end. Sticky, all in all a bit sweet.
