Pours black with a tan head. The aroma has chocolate, coffee, caramel and vanilla. The flavor has the same along with a bit of smoke. Nice and thick with a long lasting after taste.

Draft at Allentown. Pours opaque dark brown with a very thin head. Smells very sweet and boozy, like syrup, molasses, sugar, bourbon. Tastes like syrup, chocolate, bourbon, tobacco. Light body and low carbonation.

Tap at brewery. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, bourbon, oak, plums, raisins, floral notes, and light vanilla. Flavor matches the nose with smooth, roast malts, bourbon, oak, dark fruit esters, and light vanilla. Medium body and low carbonation.

Pours a pretty rich dark black with some light on the edges. Thin wispy tan head. Nose is pretty barrel heavy with some toasted wood and vanillin. Coffee and bitter chocolate make their way in for sure. Flavor is nice enough. Tastes like a well done IS homebrew with some Bourbon soaked oak chips thrown in. Some rich chocolate notes. Full bodied with a clean alcohol bite and some tannic oak.

Barely there aroma and dark pour with a small but balanced taste and minimal mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ar: Charred wood and caramel - molasses and dark currants. Ap: Deep brown, almost opaque - very small light tan head - ring of suds. T: Burnt caramel, currants, and spicy black pepper - moderate sweetness - whiskey and wood, with some vanilla and cocoa - clean booziness - dried fruits, with cherry and raisins - medium-low mossy bitterness. P: Medium-full body - high carbonation, with a cream texture - finish is medium-dry. O: Very nice RIS, with a good balance of dark fruit, caramel, and alcohol flavors - barrel character is well-integrated, too.

Bottle at home, labelled as ’bourbon barrel’ Insidious, thanks to James (Jtclockwork) for the trade, 30/05/13. Pours mid black with a big tan head that soon dissipates to a pond atop the glass with edgeing for company. Nose is roast malt laced with bourbon, dark toffee, light roast, molasses, touch of bitter chocolate. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, oak, sugars, chocolate, bourbon notes but well tempered in this respect, dark fruits, molasses. Full bodied, fine carbonation, sugars and light booze in the finish. An eminently drinkable BA impy. Smooth drinking and the alcohol is well integrated.

Great extra from budznsudz-thanks, Chris! Opaque with a coffee cream ring. Complex nose on opening of prunes, dark roast malt, vanilla, cola, sadly it fades pretty quickly becoming almost grapey. Taste is sweet upfront with bourbon and some oak then dark malt and a lingering bitterness. A tad thin but well done. If this is really $2 like I read in another rating it’s a screaming deal.

brystmar (1314) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 4, 2013
Roasty, hearty malt base is blanketed in bourbon. Notes of coffee and toffee. A tasty, well-made shelf BA RIS that's a solid step above most of its peers. Helluva deal at $2/single bottle.

12 oz bottle from trade. (But I can’t remember from who, sorry). Pours a dense black color with a small tan head that soon recedes to a film. The aroma is big and bold with dark fruits, licorice and vanilla. The taste is mild whiskey forward that accentuates a good stout. I get mellow bourbon, licorice, raisins and roasted grains. The palate is full and creamy with soft carbonation. The finish is long with lingering licorice and some whiskey. Overall: First rate BA impy. Loved it.
