Draft at The Boilermaker in Philadelphia, PA. Pours pitch black with a two finger frothy beige head that very slowly fades into a lasting cap.  Streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Sweet yet roasted nose with a very well integrated barrel character.  Lots of spicy bourbon sweetness along with earthy oak, vanilla, toffee and coconut without overpowering the malt character.  Roasted with subtle hints of coffee, toast and dark chocolate. Really nice. Medium bodied and fuller than expected with a nice balance of roasted malt and bourbon barrel.  Dry and roasty up front with hints of burnt toast, roasted coffee bean and dark chocolate followed by sweet, spicy bourbon notes. Hints of  earthy oak compliment the dryness of the malt profile but there is still a lot of sweetness.  Really nice whiskey/bourbon flavor with silky vanilla, marshmallow and coconut notes.  Very well balanced with barrel character excellently integrated.  Best beer I’ve had from this brewery.

Aroma- big oak, bourbon, dark fruits, some roasted notes Appearance- black with brown hues and a thin white head Taste- boozy bourbon hits upfront with lingering burn, roasted notes, big dark fruits, smooth finish Palate- too thin, not on par with the style Overall- Way too thin to be considered great. Very potent and boozy yet highly drinkable. Great tasting beer with some definite flaws.

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pours clear and brown with mahogany highlights and a tiny, swirling, off white head. The nose, when picked apart, is comprised of fudge, caramel and pecan praline accentuated by subtle notes of butter, lightly toasted coconut and maple syrup. Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and low-key carbonation. The flavor is a well-balanced, but decadent blend of malty caramel, fudge and light toasted oak and coconut. A touch boozy. Finishes mildly sweet and lightly acidic. Thanks to landhoney for sharing this world class beer with the south Florida crew!

12 oz bottle. Ebony with a foamy tan head that kicks up with a stiff pour. Nose is bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, coffee and mild grape. Medium body with a tang. Warming; finishing thin. Taste is bourbon, French roast, unsweetened chocolate, prune and burnt sugar. Might smooth out with some age.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2012 I am a sucker for this style. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy dark brown head that faded quickly and left decent lacing. The aroma was bourbon, toasty malts, anise and hints of coconut and vanilla. The flavor was bitter coconut, vanilla, roasty malts, faint anise, bourbon and a sharp boozy presence. The finish was long with bourbon and vanilla lingering. Moderately full bodied. Interesting.

Inky and entirely opaque, this brew pours with a small and brief head that crackles a bit and then fades quickly. The smell is rich and strong, and so is the flavor. Strong, bitter dark chocolate, hearty malt, crisp hops, and a big, oak finish. This reminds me of Weyerbacher’s Heresy, but smoother and with more of a kick. That bourbon, oaky quality is really present after the sip when I exhale. This beer is very, very good.

Pours a dark black appearance with a mocha 2 finger head that disapates into a 1 finger steady head. Aroma is similar to bcbs. Oak and bourbon, vanilla and slight coffee/chocolate. Taste isnt as strong as aroma, not as complex as expected, great bourbon but not the best stout behind it. Smooth and lighter than the average stout. Not bad, especially for a bottle under $10, it’s not ivan but it’s not bad either.

Growler. Nice strong medium brown head of fine bubbles that reduces very slowly leaving a thin sheet of foam over the surface. Very impressive head. Rich bourbon aroma with some butterscotch, vanilla, rich chocolaty malts and some cookie dough. Color is basically black. Body is a bit thinner than expected. Bourbon accents are very mild in the flavor unlike the aroma which smacks you in the face with bourbon. Some more vanilla and dough with mild chocolaty malts. Could use more malts the increase the mouthfeel and body of the brew. Light alcohol presence and warming. Finishes rich and chocolaty with a bit of lingering vanilla. A pretty damn good imperial stout which benefits from the bourbon barrel aging.
