From a bottle. Pours a very dark brown, strong oak aroma with hints of roasted malt, smooth and rich. Give it a go.

Tap at the Royston Hotel, Melbourne. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin white head and lots of clingy lace. The aroma is roasty malt, grassy hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a crisp, dry roast, grassy, liqourice hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A good black IPA but a little lacking on the citrus hop side for my liking.

Dense, black colour in the glass with a small tan head. Vietnamese coffee on the nose, slightly sweet. Coffee, vanilla taste. Medium carbonation.

TAP. Clean dark pour with minimal tan head.. Dark nose, with a mild hoppyness to it.. Big dark backbone, initially dark malts go to a touch of coffee with the finish being sharp fruit hops.. Sourced Fire Station

On tap at Scratch for Weekend of Darkness. Black with tan head and a forest-like aroma of piney hops and oak. The rich taste of Karma Citra works well with the barrique: there’s a lot going on in this one with the interplay between bitterness and malt backbone. I’ve been a big fan since my first bottle and I’m glad to finally find it on tap. Hail to the Chief!

Glass @ GABS 2016, Melbourne Near-black with tan head. Good nose - plenty of citrus & pine hop, charred malt, touch of vanilla & toasty oak. Lovely smooth texture to it. Palate reveals notes of toasty buttery oak amongst big resiny hop notes & mild roast notes. Top notch!

Bottle from Beer Cartel (April 2014). Oily dark brown/black, creamy tan head, chocolate, vanilla, some subtle oak, roast grain, piney hops, smooth texture, full body, long dry bitter finish. Excellent.

Black big tan head. Aroma is amazing - vanilla choc wafer black malt. Taste is the same with some nice bitterness balancing the vanilla sweetness. Great stuff - one of the best black IPAs around.
