It poured a dark brown color with a creamy tan head. The aroma was of chocolate, caramel, some minor coffee and a little pepper. The taste was more chocolate and caramel with a roasted malt and coffee taste and a hint of pepper. Medium to full body with average carbonation and a thick, creamy mouth feel. Very decent porter, the peppercorn is very subtle but you can tell it’s there. Strykzone (7420) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 28, 2012
On tap at the brewpub. My kickoff to the St. Louis Craft Beer week. Almost black with some red on top. A small tan ring leaves nice lacing. A roasted aroma ith soft hops. Those hops are lightly tasted adding a bit of bitterness. Pepper is tasted butbitbis very light. Chocolate and roasted notes carry this. They do a good job of it, too. Earthiness lingers a long time. Some mint in the after taste, too.
