Brewers favorite. Rich, dark and surprisingly smooth. Dark fruit flavors and chocolate come out in the malt with a hint of vanilla and a warm feeling in the finish coming from the bourbon. Actual bourbon is added to the brew at the very end of fermentation putting this porter a little bit above 8% ABV. Best way to describe this beer…Gemütlichkeit!

Dark brown, good lacing. Hotness from alcohol. Strong oak flavor. Somewhat spicy. Not much vanilla.

Growler poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, smoke, vanilla and light oak. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of cocoa, toffee, smoke, vanilla and light oak with a smooth lingering vanilla finish.

Visited the Brewpub with Strykzone who bought this one for me It was black in the glass and no light of any kind could be seen so i guess this can be considered jet black. Tan head and really sticky lacing rings. Nose and chocolate and vanilla and some slight bourbon. Full body and an amazingly smooth mouth feel. The flavor is a really rich mix of chocolate, vanilla and citrus and floral hops, and the bourbon is present but just in the right amount. There is a nice bitter finish and the alcohol is well hidden the entire time. A really great beer.

On tap at the Brewhouse. Served a deep brown color with a good tan head that fades to some lacing. Aroma of vanilla, dark fruit, roasted malt, some chocolate and bit of coffee. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit with some coffee. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Body is quite full, quite smooth and creamy. As it warms the vanilla aroma increases a bit and has a nice warming feel. Nice beer for the style. Nice sipper on a cold evening.

Tap @ Ferguson. Pours a deep brown / black appearance with a creamy brown head. Gooey caramel, toffee, vanilla, chocolate aroma. Sweet Caramello, chocolate, rich vanilla flavor. Nice stuff.

4 oz sampler at Ferguson. Pours a black color with tan head. Chocolatey, oak, vanilla bean, chocolate malt flavors. Best beer I had at Ferguson.

Tap from the brewery. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller tan head. Aroma was very over dominated by vanilla. Chocolate was also present. Flavor was all vanilla. Just too much vanilla and not enough bourban present to help balance this beer. Average at best. Still good to try , as others in our group really loved this one. Just too much vanilla for me.

Tasted on tap at the brewpub in a sampler glass. A dark brown color with weak off-white head, not much lace or legs. Extreme vanilla aroma and flavor overpowered all other aspects. Couldn’t really tell much about the malts, hops, or alcohol. Couldn’t detect any bourbon either, it just tasted like a cloyingly sweet, slightly roasty vanilla cream soda. Light-medium body, strong carbonation, slick mouthfeel. The chalkboard stated it was 9% alcohol, which I simply do not believe. It’s too bad: a bourbon strong porter is a great concept. A real missed opportunity.

It poured a dark brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was tons of vanilla and a little chocolate flavoring. The flavor was more vanilla with minor hints of chocolate. I really enjoyed this bourbon porter.
