COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This stout’s dark appearance comes from the chocolate and dark barley malts that are added to the recipe bringing out roasted and mild coffee flavors. The mouth-feel is surprisingly soft due to the oatmeal added.

Draft on tap at the brewery (Florissant, MO). Pours a deeper brownish black hue, the middle does show black while the edges show more brown ruby glow. Frothy light brown head rings small, mellow with touches of lacing. Aromas are a bit toasty and carmelized, gentle cocoa nib, some roast and earth. A bit deadened but enjoyable. Initial is a bit toasty, touches of chocolate syrup, caramel and roast. A touch sweet and dark, thinner body with some Hershey’s syrup. Some touches of roast but not dry. A bit underbodied really with some mellow underdone carbonation. Backend is a bit sweet, touches of roast and sweetness, bit of caramel, oatmeal sweetness doesn’t really provide body or creaminess for me. A bit sweet and thin, the roast never really comes into focus for me. This beer need some refinement, a bit of body and more potent roast to go along with the elements there. If Oatmeal is the idea then a bit more body and creaminess to support it is the goal. Faint dark fruit, cocoa and caramel. Meh. The flavors are good but the refinement is off. A bit messy. A significant departure from their on point hoppy beers. Looked nice at least.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear deep brown with a light brown head that dissipates quickly and completely. Aroma has some roasted malts and dark grains with a touch of dryness. Flavor has lots of roast with some dark grains and a hint of dryness.

3oz on tap at the brewpub, during my stay in STL for RBSG. Kind of a half hazy red brown color. Thin ring of off-white head. Couple loose bits of lace. Dark chocolate, roast malt, light spicy. Hint of coffee, maybe some oatiness. Overall not very stouty, tastes more like a brown ale to me. Not black enough, you know? Not much of a chewy stout body either, doesn’t really distinguish itself from the rest of their ales, like a stout should. Medium body. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Nah. Does not satisfy my stout craving.

This was at the brewpub before I caught my flight home from Dark Lord Day. Very dark brown with a robust tan head and excellent lacing. Nose is roasted malts with chocolate and coffee. Medium plus in body Flavor is rich with chocolate and lots of coffee. The oats make this extra smooth. Bitterhess in the finish. Most delightful.

Sampled at the brewpub. Almost black with a tan head that leaves drooping lacing. A chocolate aroma with oats noticed, too. Roasty. I taste roasted notes first. They quickly smooth out into a lingering coffee effect. Only a hint of chocolate. Smooth in flavor and feel from the oatmeal. This is nice.

Dark black. Thin white head. Roasted Coffee, chocolate. Kind of sweet in an extract brewing way. Pretty average stout.

Tap @ Ferguson. Pours a deep brown appearance with a light brown head. Light anise, chocolate oaty, somewhat roasty aroma. Burnt malty, light coffee, slightly dark fruity, licorice flavor. Ok.

It poured a dark brown color with a thick tan head. The aroma was of roasted malts and coffee. The taste was sweet and creamy with a malty and chocolaty finish.
