It poured a black color with a small tan head. The aroma was of roasted malts, chocolate and vanilla. The taste was rich and malty with chocolate and vanilla again being most pronounced with a dry finish. It was thick on the palate, full bodied and average carbonation. Very tasty. phaleslu (10247) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 13, 2011
Draft sample at St. Louis Brewers Heritage Festival 2011. Pours a dark, mostly opaque brown color with a small ring of beige bubbles that quickly dissipate. Aroma is vanilla and more vanilla, with some underlying roasted malts and toasted sugar. Flavor is pretty much the same, with vanilla all the way through backed by roasted malts. Medium-bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel and modest carbonation. If you like a lot of vanilla, you’ll like this. It sure isn’t subtle. Reminds me of their Vanilal Bourbon Porter, which also showed a fairly clumsy vanilla addition.
