The first bottling of the 2008 vintage came from one barrel... A Pappy Van Winkle barrel that held Bourbon for 23 years. We have 7 more of these barrels ranging in age from 17 to 23 years. The next bottling is a blend of three of these barrels. The blend which will be marked ’2nd bottling’ or something to that effect so they can be identified. The remaining 4 barrels will be split into draft and yet a third bottling. The 2009 Eclipse will be aging longer than the 2008. The 2008 aged for 180 days and the 4 remaining barrels are most likely going to hit 225 days. We are brewing the base Imperial Stout in March allowing us even further aging time prior to it’s mid-December release... The amount produced will increase from 17bbls to 34bbls for ’09.

Several different releases including unwaxed, "Brewers Reserve", Pinkish Wax. Available starting Late Fall 2008.

Draft at EBF. Pours a black body with a tan head. Chocolate, malty, creamy chocolate. Mild bourbon and etoh. Creamy sweet chocolate milk lightly roasty with a light bittering hop but mostly just roasty. Excellent.

On tap at Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Awesome! Vanilla, Bourbon, dreamy, creamy rich. This is what bourbon barrel finished stout is all about. Very reminiscient of Goose Island Bourbon County.

22oz bomber shared by Ken--thanks! 2008, bottle 531. Deep brown pour with a 1/2 finger cinnamon head, good retention. Bourbon, chocolatea. light pepper and roast in the aroma. Flavor is very much chocolate-forward with a good amount of bourbon--bourbon covered chocolate! Full body with smooth light carbonation. Excellent BA IS.

Huge thanks to nerd for providing this at the post-Christmas tasting in Chicago. Served in my Cantillon tulip. Like others have said, this one was far and away the best of the "Pappy barrel" blind tasting we had. Unwaxed bottle from the 2nd release. Pours near black with a very thin tan head without too much retention. Given the age, I won’t complain too much. Looks pretty good, all things considered. The nose is pretty impressive with a really nice aroma that I’ve come to know as that coming from Pappy barrels. Really great bourbon character here. A bit of sweetness and chocolate there as well. The taste is right up there with it. Amazing bourbon presence coming from the Pappy as well as a fantastic chocolate character and a nice amount of sweetness. Some mild roast sitting there in the background. Really quite smooth. The mouthfeel is where this really hit high gear with me--some booze but this is incredibly smooth and the barrel character is fantastic. Really incredibly smooth and drinkable all around. Thanks again, Mike.

bottle from walter... # lucky 13 on 3/5/11 at rbwg. almost black color with a teenie tan head. this stood out next to the others... the most rich, well integrated, delicious 50/50 of the day (and to date!) fudgey chocolate, vanilla, coconut cream, bs, roast, sweet soft bourbon awesomeness. medium to full bodied, rich, lux, killer.

Appearance: Pours dark brown, like motor oil, with no head.

Aroma: Huge dark chocolate coconut egg. Spiced rum.

Taste: Dark chocolate wood bourbon, coconut.

Mouthfeel: Thin compared to a recent vintage, modest bubbles.

Overall: Probably one of my favorite samples of Eclipse to date.

Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing 2008 vintage bottles during his 50th birthday bash. The beer pours a brownish-black color with a medium foamy tan head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing. The aroma consists of dark chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. Full-bodied with an oaky bourbon character and flavors of chocolate, malt and coffee. The finish is boozy with a caramel-malt and bourbon aftertaste. Really good beer all around.

Shared mini growler at craft, thanks Janet. Pours pi check black, no head, dead looking monster of a pour. The aroma has a huge milk chocolate, medium roast, sweet bourbon. The taste has a big vanilla, sweet milk chocolate, more chocolate, just beautiful. Unreal
