FoBAB 2008 offering: #203 - Another offering from Todd I got to enjoy and it looks like this falls into being rating #300 as I go through the backlog from the RB downtime. Pours a ruby over mignight hue with little to no head. Aromas are fitting of the style, Bourbon and oak mixed with toasted malt, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste verifies: Burnt malt mixing well with chocolate, vanilla, and lighter coffee notes. Moves into more oaky and bourbon finish. Not really too boozy. Cheers! drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 28, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2011 FoBAB 2008 - pours black with tan head, nose of chocolate, smoke, tobacco, flavors of tobacco, chocolate, coffee, wood, caramel. wow really nice use of the barrel. HopheadHans (804) - Bay Area, California, USA - JAN 23, 2009
Tap at Toronado. Pours with a pitch black color and a faint head. Aromas of bourbon and oak, perhaps a bit of vanilla.
The vanilla is more prominent in the flavor profile, the bourbon is there but fairly subtle which is good. Some oakiness as well as chocolate. A very well balanced beer. emacgee (4675) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - FEB 8, 2009
Thanks a ton to turdferguson for sharing. Pours a dark black with a chestnut head. The nose is nice, great balance between the bourbon and oak character and the base RIS, chocolate, roasty, a little earthy, mild tobacco. Excellent balance in the flavor, an almost perfect presentation of the bourbon and barrel over the stout, some tobacco comes through in the flavor, rich, warming alcohol, a little earthy, chocolate. Nice thick warming palate. Great stout. GodOfThunder (1249) - Orlando, Florida, USA - APR 7, 2009
Special thanks to Beerlando. This beer is exactly as JMFG described it below. Black, alcohol, oak, bourbon and a little vanilla. Pretty darn good.

Another old rating. Aroma of a lot of alcohol and some dark fruits. A little sweetness, tobacco, but pretty pretty tastey. Didnt seem as smooth as this could have been . Still a great beer. dcschiller (2208) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - DEC 20, 2011
Really nice Pappy version-courtesy of dionysus at RBWG 2011-Phoenix. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma has beautiful bourbon aroma which is understated, if that’s possible. Sweet malt and bourbon flavors with a little heat. Full bodied and creamy texture. Finish is all bourbon. This is a good beer, but other concurred that GI Rare was a bit better.
