Tasted as Rittenhouse Rye Barrel 2011 No head left, black beer with deepbrown sidelining. Rich alcoholic/chocolate/stout nose, superb whisky aroma, intense vanilla. Sweet, vanilla, wood, full chocolate, cocoa powder, young oak. Sample gone a bit lame, alcoholwarming, fully viscous. Rye, it seems - if one had said Bourbon, I’d have believed it too. Many thanks to M & L V.! Countbeer (6592) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - JAN 22, 2016
Bomber @ FiftyFifty Charity Tasting: Vintage 2012: Served in a taster:
Black body with creamy tan lacing.
Aroma is roast, paint, tobacco, light bourbon, meat, soy... Later on it becomes so much better: beautiful roast, bourbon, vanilla, liquorice...
Flavour is molasses, brown sugars, roast, bourbon, light vanila, light pudding, light dry, light molasses...
Aftertaste is roasty, bourbon, coal, vanilla, fudge...
Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, very close to full bodied. 23Skidoo (69) - SWEDEN - FEB 16, 2016
Like a dark chocolate whisky-infused praline in liquid form. Not in the mood to write a long review, but this is love. AdmiralVernon (1187) - SWEDEN - DEC 17, 2016

Damn Hop Head thanks for bringing this badboy to the tasting today. Pours black with a light brown head. Nose is sweet, with a touch of booziness. Taste is sweet, with milk chocolate, hidden alc, tasty beer no doubt.

Hophead and his insane connections brings this awesome beer almost before it’s released. Thanks Shane! Some booziness. Some chocolate. Lightly sweet. Very good. Black color. Nice barrel characteristics. daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - FEB 22, 2010
Woodshop. Thanks cloudskipper! Pours a black color with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet and delicious. A beautiful bourbon aroma blossums with chocolate and coffee and a great roasted note. Flavor is smooth and slighlty sweet with a nice bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt keeping things in check. Great brew. bhensonb (15077) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 25, 2010
Green wax bottle (2262/2009) from the Co-op in Davis, CA. Pours black with a light tan head. Smells of smooth burnt malt, oak and vanilla. Full bodied with mild carb. The flavor is sweet smooth burnt malt with vanilla and oak. Could be a touch of bourbon. Drinks well. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 26, 2010
Sampled at the RBSG Summer Grand Tasting (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a nice nice blackish brown pour, thicker, small offwhite tannish head laces small. Aromas are cocoa and caramel, toasty malts, bourbon. Vanilla tannins, boozy alcohol, rich roasty and sweet malts with a touch of chocolate chip cookie. Initial is smooth and mellow, cocoa moves into vanilla tannins, coffee, caramel, roasty malts and a decent boozy. Similar nose to EC but a decent amount stronger and more flavorful barrel character. Tasty, complexy, cocoa and vanilla tannins, roasty malts, coffee is lighter. A strong beer, yet some silky elements are there. Very nice slowrunner77 (11891) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 7, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 26, 2014 this was quite the beer. 50 50’s best to date, and that included the worthy EC version of this stout. what puts this one over the top are the aroma and dryer finish. aroma very complex- vanilla, wood, whiskey. the hops still come through a little in the aroma and flavor. sweet tasting but not overly so. less hot and a touch smoother than the EC version. Nice, dry finish adds a level of complexity. This is a local beer that can hang with some of the big boys."
"WAAAAAY more rye barrel presence than the 2009 heaven hill version, and not as high quality of a beer because of it. Still quite delicious. Silky smooth though it showed some heat, lots of chocolate, whiskey and rye on the nose and in the flavor. This one was not quite worth the bottle price. Too much barrel influence and not enough complexity...but some of these have been epic (see 2011 Iced Eclipse) so worth a shot. 2011 batch also a little too rye forward. Very good, but not elite as a couple of these have been..."
