This beer pours a clear golden color with a medium thick frothy white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of bourbon, toffee, dark fruit and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of rye whiskey, dried fruits, caramel malt and fruity hops. The finish is spicy rye and bourbon. Pretty good all around.

Fans of JW Lee British old style ale rejoice! Pours nicely into brandy snifter, a healthy sudsy foam gives rise to a murky, muddy swamp water with sediment in flux. Such an earthy, sweet bourbon aroma...the barrel aging was impeccable in smoothing the strong ale’s rustic taste. A sweet boozy raisin taste, is balanced by a silky whisky vanilla finish. This isn’t a beer, it’s art my friends. Cheers fifty fifty

Bottle, 22oz, shared by cunningham. A hazy dark golden-colored beer with a minimal sized light beige head. The aroma is sort of boozy, with loads of piney and resiny hops and a touch of sugary malts. It’s full-bodied, warming and nicely carbonated, with a good bitterness. Pine cones, resins and some sugary malts in the flavor, with some caramel notes. Lasting finish with bitterness, pine cones and resins. Not my favorite from FiftyFifty, too boozy I think, but it’s sure a fine brew. 170311

Poured from a 22 oz bottle form either 2014 or 2015. Aroma is malt forward with lots of caramel malt, honey malt and candi sugar. Hints of raisin with some light red apple and pear esters. Moderate hop noes with citrus and pine resin. Medium to medium light alcohol spice. Medium light oak notes. Pours a moderately hazy, copper color with a medium small to small, moderately thick, light tan head that recedes steadily to the edges where it lingers. Medium lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with lots of caramel, honey and sugar notes. Hints of lightly toasted bread. Moderately high bitterness and a medium light oak note. Medium high hop notes that are very resinous with some light citrus character and a bit of an spicy, herbal note. Medium alcohol spice. Light bourbon notes. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice, lighter barleywine. Lots of hop character that peaks through the light malt profile. Very sweet, but its balanced by a fairly assertive bitterness. Bourbon note is a bit light, but the oak is more prevalent which is odd.

Bottle, 2014. POurs hazy reddish orange, small beige head, dissipates quickly to bubbles, some lacing. Aroma is loads of oak and vanilla, bourbon, toffee. Flavor is full sweet, light plus bitter, mega oak and vanilla here too. Bitterness cuts the sweetness enough to make it drinkable, but its still a sipper. Medium body, fairly light signs of the booze inside.

Bottle shared with happyhoppy from Healthy Spirits, San Francisco - CA. Color: clear golden amber brown beer with golden reflection, no carbonation and small ivory head. Smell: toffee and caramel notes. Sweet hoppy and caramel malt. High alcohol domination. Rich bouquet as butter, nuts and butter cake. Taste: high body, really sweet and some oily sensation. Really amazing. Good caramel and sweet butter cake taste. Well balanced with a hoppy blast and dry bitterness. Good attenuation with nuts and toffee. Finish as alcohol but well balanced. Aftertaste: caramel and toffee, nuts and wet bitterness. Alcohol. Amazing!

Enjoyed at an all barley wine tasting at Travis’s house on February 21. 22 oz bottle. The pour is a reddish orange with a small film of white head and no lace. The aroma is strongly woody with hints of caramel and vanilla. There is a strong malt sweetness that carries it to the back end. The flavor is sweet and malty, but there is a strong pungent alcohol that I feel could be ignited. There is a nice vanilla and malt, but the alcohol burn will not be denied. The mouth feel is decently thick with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly soapy bitter boozy aftertaste

Bottle split at Jack The Sipper leaves for the FBI again tasting, thanks to Kenwold for this low boost (by his standards) offering, 14/07/15. Very lightly hazed orange amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is woody, bitter tropicana shreds, spruce, orange, light spice. Taste comprises a rich dark fruit enclave, hoppy bite, barrel tones, toffee, cake mix. Medium + body, oily feel, bitter tropicana and a drizzle of booze in the close. Xolid gear ... really drinkable stuff!
