22 oz. bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a dark cola brown color with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor has roasted malt, dark chocolate, barrel notes, caramel, some earthy bitterness and some booze. The only negative is the medium light body. I would like to see this a bit more full bodied. Scopey (14523) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 8, 2013
Bottle at Jackís farewell tasting, big thanks to Bruce! It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is roasty, earth, juicy, toast, vanilla, coconut, fudge and toffee. The taste is smooth, roasted malt, coffee, light toast, warming alcohol, fudge, earth, raisin and chocolate with a dry, roasty finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth-feel. Smooth, well-balanced and very drinkable. Good work! planky84 (3215) - Lee, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 13, 2013
Bottle at Chris Oís pre-GBBF shindig, 2013. Dark, reddish-brown pour. Licorice toffee, chocolate, caramel and toffee aroma. Nice nose. Dark chocolate and licorice flavour. Rich, thick taste. Long, boozy finish. Nice. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - SEP 8, 2013
Bottle shared at Danís Birthday Tasting (Lyons, IL). Pours a richer blackish pour, good haziness, with a nice brownish glow on the edges. A frothy tannish head is a decent size, sits around and laces ok. Aromas are gentle cocoa, toast and toffee. Some gentle spirit, oak, and vanilla. A bit sweeter and sticky. Initial is firmer, medium bodied, a touch heavier with cocoa, toffee, and toast. Decent spirit. A bit of a condensed sweeter element hangs around. Some oatmeal, black malts, some toffee and toast. Vanilla, gentle spirit. Middle is a bit fuzzy, warm and spirit driven. A bit warm, some gentle carmelization and toast, toffee, coffee roast into the backend. Some roast, toast, a bit harsher and dry, warmth as we finish. Nice beer, a bit warm. The Iced element thickens it up a bit. Nice. jackl (8029) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 16, 2013

Poured into a snifter. 2012 vintage, bottle #71.
3.0 A: Deep brown color. Aggressive pour yielded just a wisp of head that fell quickly.
4.5 S: I had another BART variant a while ago, but I donít remember much about it. However, I donít think it smelled much like this. This American strong ale smells like equal parts imperial stout and barleywine. Moderate roastiness, milk chocolate, layers of caramel, and hints of toffee. Dark fruits including dates, figs, prunes, and light raisin. As per usual, the barrel aging is done really well. Smooth leather with earthiness and light, supple tannins. Lots of vanilla and a mild oakiness.
4.0 T: Taste is like the nose, but it less powerful. Itís also a bit more tilted toward barleywine. Light roast and chocolate. Layers and layers of caramel, some toffee, fruits mentioned in nose. Light booziness that fits in well with the beer as a whole. Again a good bit of vanilla, leather, earthiness, and oak.
2.75 M: Just like the Eclipse line, this is desperately in need of some body. Itís a light to lighter medium body. It lacks creaminess and is also a bit low on carbonation. Get a higher mash temp up in this bitch.
3.75 D: Again the thing that holds a 50/50 brew from being stellar is the mouthfeel. More body would fix the mouthfeel and would add some more flavor to the taste. Still, itís a good beer, so feel free to give it a try.
