hackobock (4029) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 28, 2015
December 28, 2015. Bottle, vintage 2012.
Black with a small brown head. Aroma is wood, bourbon, dark chocolate, fudge, milk chocolate, vanilla, raisins and alcohol. Taste is quite sweet malty, soft bitter. Finish is sweet with toffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, prunes, quite soft bitterness with dark chocolate and notes of roasted coffee, some wood and light warming bourbon alcohol. Medium to full bodied, creamy oily texture, soft carbonation.
Very good slighly too sweet and woody.

mathieuc (3990) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 14, 2013
Pours pitch black with a thin moka head that doesn’t leave much lacing. Aroma is of green hops, bourbon. Taste is quite sweet but the roasted malt and alcohol/bourbon do a good job to make it all balanced out. Flavors of coffee, chocolate and booze working in almost perfect harmony. Body is full and heavy but still really drinkable. A nice change of pace in a sour/wild tasting!

ansalon (3846) - Stockholm, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - JUL 5, 2014
Pours black with a low tan head perfectly separated. Aromas of chocolate, muscovado sugar, honey, bourbon, vanilla, oak. Taste is chocolate, honey, muscovado sugar, vanilla, dark dried berries, bourbon. Mouthfeel is smooth and silky with medium carbonation. Aftertaste is a perfect blend between vanilla, oak, honey and muscovado sugar. Just fantastic!!

Bomber shared by Steve. Deep brown-black with a mocha rim. Rich chocolate, coffee, vanilla, a rich, slightly metallic, a little booze. Medium+ body, very low carbonation. Rich chocolate and coffee, toffee, booze, really nice k off dry with a boozy, dark malt finish.

Gerbeer (3753) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 6, 2014
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2014 22 oz bottle. 2012 vintage. Pours black with light to moderate tan head. Aromas of rich dark roasted malts, pumpernickel/oatmeal, and alcohol. Flavors are similar with notes of toasted coconut and licorice. Big, full, and boozy. Very good but over priced - at least double that of equally good or better barrel aged Imperials.

Pour from bottle at Zwanze Day 2012 at the Barrel Cellar. Big thanks for the pour Bill!! Appearance is dark brown with a slight red tint and a small brown head. Dark fruit, prunes, wood/oak, raisins, slightly roasty aroma. Taste is toffee, caramel, plums, black licorice, anise, with a really smooth middle and roasted, dark chocolate finish that seems to linger on your tongue. Slick mouthfeel with really no carbonation. Really good barrel aged beer. Nice!

reggiedunlop (3725) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 29, 2013
2011 Bottle...Pours deep brown with a medium tan head. Aroma has nice mild vanilla and roast with light bourbon...slightly boozy. Flavor follows suit but not boozy and adds layers of dark chocolate, brown sugar, and toasted coconut. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish has dark chocolate/brown sugar/and bourbon...very warming.

TheEpeeist (3709) - Media, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 14, 2012
22 oz bottle, 2011. Dark brown with spotty bubbles and lacy rings. Nose is bourbon, dark chocolate, peppery oak and molasses. Body is substantial and hot but not pushing it in either case. Delicate prickly carb lightens and lingers. Taste like the nose with the mellow bourbon set off beautifully against the rich chocolate and molasses. Hints of coconut and raisin. Delish.

Served in a FiftyFifty Eclipse snifter. Finally getting around to trying this beer. I’ve been excited about this one for some time. Shared with the group during a FiftyFifty themed tasting. The beer appears near black with a thin beige head. The aroma is vanilla, perhaps some toasted coconut, roast, chocolate, oak. Lovely. The taste follows suit. Simply delicious. A standout among the FiftyFifty Eclipse series. It was interesting sipping this side by side with the Elijah Craig 18 Eclipse. I think both are fabulous beers, each offering a myriad of flavors. Highly recommended.

2013 sample at HMOG 2015, if you can follow that. Whiskey aromas. Bit of the same on the flavor. This is a good series of beers. Not knowledgeable enough to pick out the barrel of each but it is a well made barrel aged beer. Spice alcohol drowns out the base beer a bit. The base does give a little body to the overall drink.
