UPDATED: FEB 27, 2012 Elijah Craig, 2009 Vintage: Pours a deep, inky opaque black with a small brown head. Notes of rich bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, chocolate, oak, and molasses. Nose is a little hot, but the flavor and mouthfeel are damn near perfect; smooth and rich without being too bourbony. Full-bodied, with low carbonation. This is my favorite of the four here today. 8 5 9 5 17 - 4.4. Re-Rate, 2011 vintage, purple wax. 22 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy but bright mahogany with a small tan film. Warm aroma, with molasses, oak, toffee, and vanilla. The flavor has tobacco, vanilla, caramel, molasses, oak, brown sugar, and bourbon. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. Not as good as the vintage I had at FOBAB. Was tied as my third favorite of the 2011 series. 8 4 8 4 16 - 4.0. marcus (10227) - Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 13, 2010
22oz bottle from a clandestine source. Pours dark brown with no head and a marvelous chocolate and treacle aroma There is an intense chocolate, treacle and anise flavor with a warming bourbon trail and an oaky finish. This is a perfectly aged version of Eclipse that is a great pleasure to drink.sebletitje (10080) - Enghien, BELGIUM - JAN 20, 2014

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and a strong treacle aroma. There is a burnt chocolate and treacle flavor with some raisin and a dry bitter finish. There is a distinct bourbon flavor left on the palate, along with a warm trail. This is a very tasty brew that has improved in the barrel.
66cl bouteille @ RBBWG III, thanks ThirstyBird.
JorisPPattyn (10002) - Ursel, BELGIUM - APR 10, 2016
Comparative tasting of 9 different Eclipse Stout variants. All beers small to rather good yellow-beige rim over jet-black beer 2014 ed. Smokey, Bourbon, vanilla. Sweet, incense, chocolate, whiskycharacter. Warming, alcoholheat and deceptively light bodie. This one is utterly great. Stout the way it ought to be. 2011 version Alcohol, benzene, spirit, Bourbon, vanilla, vanilla icecream, sweet nose. Sweet taste as well, with Bourbon, raisins, sweetened milk, retronasal even more vanilla. Creamy feel, light slickness, treacherously ’light’ bodied. Again a sweet version, but better balanced than the 20yr barrel version.
22oz bomber with purple wax #478 courtesy of FickSD over on BA shared at the Toronado. Poured a deep, clear brown with no head. Nose was rich with figs, raisins, oak, some light spicy alcohol, molasses, maple. Taste is very sweet, dark fruit forward, spicy alcohol, dry oak. Sticky sweet palate.

65 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2014. Courtesy of & thx! to ThirstyBird. Lovely bottle. Black touch brown, almost no mocha head. Nose is mellow, roasted, mocha, dark fruits, faint barrel. Taste is sweet mocha mixed with some roast, caramel, toffee, some whiskey but not much, chocolate, coffee, dark chocolate, barrel is pretty light, touch dark bread, leaves. Substantial body but not the heaviest. Okay but definitely expected more here. The 20 Year version was way better in my memory. tderoeck (9715) - Gent, BELGIUM - JAN 27, 2014

Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige small head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of vanilla, caramel, sweet, some mocha, dried fruits, alcohol, sugary. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: caramel, lots of vanilla, bourbon, sugary, some alcohol, dark chocolate. Aftertaste: caramel, bourbon, vanilla, quite some bitter hops, dried fruits. Very nice complex and interesting stuff!
22oz bottle, thanks to DanielCoor for sharing. 2012 vintage. Dark brown color. Lighter brown, thin head. Good lace. Really amazing nose... Huge, pleasant woody-spicy whiskey barrel aroma. Bigger smooth body. Pretty creamy. Light apple, light spice. Nice bitter taste. Good citrusy hop note. Big roasty bitterness. Dark chocolate, bitter coffee. Nice sweetness. great stuff. Awesome woody spiciness from the barrel. Huge flavor, but not flooring, in the way that liquor would floor you, still super good. Super long tasty aftertaste to savor. arminjewell (9664) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Pour out of 750 mL bottle, 2011 bottle, Darkness Day 2012. Thick black pour with creamy tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, roast, coffee, nice vanilla, slight oak, bourbon, spice notes from the whiskey, slight toffee, caramel as well in there. Taste is roast, chocolate, sweet vanilla, caramel, bourbon, slight spice, yeast notes, slight oaky tones, hints of a slight dark fruit, finishing sweet, slightly bitter. bb (9268) - Alamo, California, USA - JAN 2, 2013
Draft. Black/brown beer with a low cream head. Bourbon aroma. Bourbon and light chocolate flavor with light vanilla. Medium-plus bodied. Bourbon and light chocolate lingers with light roastiness. Well put together.
