COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

Vintages:
2011 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 18/20 Year Barrel) = White Wax
2012 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 20 Year Barrel) = White Wax

Bottle at Mane Liquor Eclipse tasting. 2012 version. Pours dark brown with a sticky tan head. This is definitely one of the best Eclipse’s of the night if not the best. A bouquet of banana, milk chocoalte, oak, vanilla, honey treacle, coconut and woody spice. Great lengthy spice on the finish. An absolute stunner

2011 vintage bottle #5253 Pours pitch black with a lacy creamy tan head. Amazing aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, caramel/ toffee, oak and molasses. Flavor of dark chocolate, bourbon, dark coffee, caramel/toffee, dark fruit, molasses and had a smooth warming bourbon finish. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. A great barrel aged imp stout.

SlackerMads (3360) - DENMARK - APR 20, 2014
Bottle 2012. Dark brown close to black with a minimal tan head. Molasses, bourbon, warming alcohol, vanilla, sweet chocolate. Medium body, sticky texture, near flat carbonation, medium/heavy sweet and medium bitter. More flat and sticky than the 12 year version. Nåe ringar end tållaaarn.

White wax, bottle #1510, vintage 2011, shared by badnewsbeers. Opaque brown-black body, thin coffee & cream head. Spicy nose with oak, less buttery rum than some of the other vintages, but sharper, with honey, chocolate, and coffee bean. Spicy body, distinctive and sharp, with chocolate, coffee, oak, and licorice/anise, finishing with a nice buttery oak finish. Very good, perhaps my favorite vintage.

Sugary sweet molasses nose. Taste is grossly sweet, lots if molasses and brown sugar, light chocolate. Astringent finish. Not good.

Riktigt gott!

Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 29, 2014
Wow! Pours thick unclear black coffee with a small darker beige head. Aroma and flavor blow the 12 year old out of the water! There are big spicy vanilla and barrel notes with chocolate and mocha on the tongue settling so well. There is a nice creamy but balanced body as well.

We did a side by side of 2011 (18 year Elijah Craig barrel)(bottle #317) and 2012 (20 year Elijah Craig barrel)(reserve). The score reflects the 2012 version, both white wax tops. 2011 Version A: Dark Opaque Hue, Passes No Light, Brown Head Ring, Some Lacing S: Vanilla, Bourbon, Mildly Oaked T: Bourbon, Mild Vanilla, Mild Brown Sugar M: Average Carbonation, Medium to Full Bodied, Semi Boozy, Mildly Sweet 2012 Version (barrel reserve) A: Dark Opaque Hue, Passes No Light, Brown Head Ring, Some Lacing S: Mild Bourbon, Mild Vanilla, Mildly Oaked T: Boubon, Vanilla, Mild Brown Sugar, Mild Honey M: Average Carbonation, Medium to Full Bodied, Mildly Sweet, Mildly Boozy Overall, the 2012 was the better of the two bottles, no boozy heat, very smooth and the tastes blended very well, outstanding.
