It pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up modest notes of dark roasted malts, chocolate, earthy chocolate malts and mild bourbon barrel notes. The taste has a pleasing richness to be sure with dark roasted malts, some sweet molasses, chocolate brownie and then a slightly tart bourbon barrel essence. This is rich and smooth and yummy.
Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver; vintage 2016Oakes (17274) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 10, 2017
Black color, large beige head. Mild aroma of roasted malts and alcohol. The dark malt flavor is really good, some dark caramel, mild roastiness, very moderate sweetness, but somehow juicy, with very light barrel character, and very light vinous note in the final.
Very good, not worth the 40$ price tag though.
2016 bottle. Dark brown. Bubbly head. Chocoolate nose with a fair bit of bourbon character. Thick, sweet, and this has a touch of honey and a mellow bourbon note. Quite a woody character. Drier than many of the Ecilpses. mcberko (17345) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 10, 2017
22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out a lovely whiskey barrel character upfront, with light roast further back. Flavour is similar, with a complex whiskey barrel character, followed by vanilla and caramel. Wonderful whiskey character, with just enough sweetness to amp the complexity up. Excellent. fiery_1 (927) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 4, 2017
650ml bottle @ Jonny’s 2016 Eclipse tasting. Pours a dark mostly opaque brown colour with a thin tan head. Nose hints of sweet bourbon and molasses. Flavour is rich and complex with a semi hot finish. beerplace (1604) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 4, 2017
650ml bottle at Jonny’s during Eclipses 2016 tasting. Pours an opaque dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma is barrel, dark fruits, some leather notes. Taste is pretty the same with burnt malt notes. Good stuff, but definitely overpriced as usual, though.

Zwart olieachtig bier met fijne schuimkraag. Lekker boozy en mooie warme volle smaak van de whiskey barrel aging. Koffie, whiskey, eik, licht gebrand. Lange warme smooth afdronk. Topbier. ciocanelu (2468) - Timisoara, ROMANIA - SEP 3, 2016
2012 vintage. Dark brown color, brown head. Aroma has lots of sweet bourbon, dark fruits, molasses, dried dates. Taste is full of dried fruits like dates and figs, bourbon is in the background, adds just some complexity without booze or sweetness. Body is quite light for the style. Really complex flavors, smooth and mellowed out. bigda83 (854) - Jamestown, New York, USA - AUG 26, 2016
2013 bottle. Held up nicely. Pours a dark black/brown, some hazy streaks, small bubbly tan head. Aromas of a very nice and smooth bourbon, slight vegetal, old coffee, chocolate, roasted malts. Flavor follows with smooth bourbon up front, bits of old coffee and semi sweet chocolate, mild vegetal, roasted malts. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, smooth finish. Bourbon definitely smoothed out with the age because there was no heat or burn. Really solid and exceeded my expectations. dnicolaescu (2535) - Chișinău, MOLDOVA - AUG 23, 2016
Sample at a tasting. Sweet chocolate and molasses and full of barrel, oak vanilla. Balanced, with a smooth chocolaty sweetness. Nice warming alcohol. Excellent.
