4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz waxed bomber pours with a dark mahogany body supporting a mocha head of foam. The aroma offers up boozy heat flowing into sweet bourbon and light wood notes as well as some dark roasted malts and chocolate. The taste is smooth and fairly creamy delivering up dark roasted malts, some molasses, smooth sweet bourbon and the booziness. This is a dandy smooth rich sipper of a beer where the barrel aging didn’t crush the wonderful base beer.
Poured from a 22 oz bottle. kraddel (9144) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - JUL 16, 2017
Aroma is fairly chocolate forward with some light roast notes. Moderate whiskey notes and light oak. Hints of dark fruit, anise and leather. Light alcohol spice.
Pours black with a small, moderately thick, mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges where a small film lingers for a bit. No lacing and moderate length legs.
Flavor is fairly sweet with a moderately strong chocolate note as well as some light roast and graham cracker and caramel notes; actually this tastes a lot like a tootsie roll. Light leather notes as well. Hints of dark fruit. Light whiskey and faint oak notes.
Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and slightly silky with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, another Eclipse that has aged nicely. I remember this variant being super hot and boozy when it was first released but this has aged wonderfully and the alcohol has really integrated nicely with the malt.
Bottle at the great eclipse tasting. 2012 edition ( so far the only batch made ) Smell is bit boozy, some oak. Taste is full, sharp, bit boozy, bourbon, some oak. intense bourbon, but not really overpowering the beer completely. Nicely working blend. Max amount of bourbon to still be acceptable to me, which is a nice border to find anyway. very nice fonefan (51574) - VestJylland, DENMARK - NOV 23, 2016
