Poured from a 22 oz bottle.
Aroma is chocolate forward with balanced roast and leather notes. Hints of dark fruit with some light whiskey and oak notes. Light anise notes and some honey as well.
Pours black with dark brown hues on the edges and a small, thin, mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers for a bit. No lacing and moderate legs.
Flavor is fairly sweet with a lot of chocolate notes, both milk and dark chocolate. Meidumm light roast notes with light honey, leather and tobacco. Light raisin and dark fruit with moderate bitterness. Light oak and whiskey notes with faint alcohol spice.
Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth.
Overall, a pretty good Eclipse that has aged fairly well. Oxidation is showing in the aroma, but the flavor is still quite nice. Alcohol and whiskey notes have mellowed nicely. kraddel (9329) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - JUL 16, 2017
at the great eclipse tasting. 2012 edition ( only edition so far) Pours back, no real head. Smell is roasty, not so intense on the barrel. Taste is full, grainy whiskey, but incredibly blended in. not as boozy. Intense. Nice ! ansalon (4219) - Stockholm, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - DEC 3, 2016
Pours black with a low tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted malt, roasted nuts, charred oak, bourbon, muscovado sugar, leather, slight tobacco. Taste is roasted and chocolatey with a strong bourbon presence. Charred and oaky notes abound. Mouthfeel is oily and slightly sticky with low carbonation. Very good! (FiftyFifty Imperial Eclipse Stout - Rebel Yell Whiskey Barrel) Bottle 650 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 9.5% printed on the bottle, red wax, BR 1/2012 marked on the bottle.
Black coloured body with a finger of a bit thin, dark beige head on top, with good retention. Great aroma, lots of chocolate and moccha, bourbon, chocolate, coffee creme liquer, alcohol.
Nice taste too, again lots of chocolate and alcohol, moccha, chocolate cake, light roasted malts, chocolate ice cream, bourbon.
Medium thick body with soft carbonation, mildly sticky palate.
Very good. DocLock (11189) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 14, 2016
Aged bottle. Love this wax color. Deep black, thick pour. Nose was oaky bourbon, dark malt, cacao, vanilla. Dense on the tongue, some bourbon heat, oak, dark malt, cacao, and complex finish.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2016 22oz bottle with metallic red wax, shared by alexsdad06. Marked BR 1 2012. Dark brown, kind of red color. Ring of khaki, bubbly head. Really interesting, big whiskey barrel in the nose, mixed with some dark chocolate. Some sweet marzipan type nuttiness in the flavor, nice barrel heat. I think the barrel is my favorite part of this, great in the aroma. But like the coffee 2015 eclipse I had earlier, it’s just a bit sugary sweet for me in the flavor. Kind of bigger body. Mild slick texture. Light slick. Light carbonation. Tasty overall. 8/3/7/4/16 phaleslu (10895) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 2, 2016
Update, 3/4/16: Same bottle. There was a lot left in it after our tasting, and I thought it was great but there was a lot of beer on my table, so I put a wine cork in it and left it in my fridge for revisitation the next day. I forgot about it until today. Holy cow, it’s drinking great, Even better now, that I have a fresh palate, I think. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, it has aged beautifully, even after being exposed to oxygen for 2 days. Mild carbonation retains, even, doesn’t seem 100% flat yet. This is definitely one of the better 3-4 yr old imperial stouts I’ve ever had. Whiskey character is fantastic, and the imperial stout base holds up to it very well. Taste is moderate to bigger sweet, light to moderate bitter, with a nice bit of mild alcohol warmth. Nothing wrong with this here. Nice rich caramel, light dark chocolate, bigger oak, and a pleasant dose of whiskey. Like a rich booze-soaked chocolate coffee cake, overall. Restrained but pleasant amount of roast malt character. One of the better Eclipse variants I’ve tried. Great to enjoy the rest of this with my sandwich for a late lunch, before I head in for an evening shift at the bottle shop. In my early days of bottle sharing, I’d dump the leftovers at the end of the njight, thinking there was nothing else I could do with them. I’m glad I got into the habit of saving the highlights for sampling the next day. A real treat.
22 oz. bottle shared by alexsdad06 - thanks again, Brad! 2012 vintage, red wax. Aroma of vanilla, oak, tobacco, chocolate, mild roast, raisins, figs, and spiced cake. Flavor of tobacco, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, cream, dark dried fruits, and bourbon. Light-medium bodied, with modest carbonation and a smooth, sweet mouthfeel. Gets better as it opens. Showing slight age with the thinner body and carbonation level. Subtle warming to it. Erzengel (9751) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - JAN 13, 2016
Smooth and fresh beginning. Soft and smooth. Very fresh and smooth with a nice complex body. Wood with lots of smooth and fresh Bourbon. Great and easy to drink. Nice smooth woody aroma. The Bourbon and the wood harmonise and fit in great. The chocolate and the Whisky are a great combination with hints of wood! Great! Fascinating brew! Fast schwarz, ordentliche bräunliche Schaumkrone. Geruch nach Bourbon, Kaffee, Holz, Alkohol. Geschmack ist süß röstmalzig, Kaffee, viel Vanille, Bourbon, alkoholisch, gut! SinH4 (6566) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - JAN 8, 2016
Black color with tan ring. Aroma is vanilla, black chocolate, and co. Taste is the same. A bit spicy, not so alcoholic. Excellent Imperial Stout, but they start to blend in.
