22 oz bottle shared by Spencer. Thanks! The pour is a nice black with a lighter khaki colored head and a decent lace. The aroma is a little plainer than the Buffalo Trace that was just enjoyed. There is a pretty good bourbon element to it. Good vanilla and chocolate, but the nose just lacks. The flavor is definitely hotter than I was expecting. Good light roast. Some light chocolate present. Lingeringly bitter. Heavy bourbon. The mouth feel is light but well carbonated so it comes off creamy. I'm a fan of the Buffalo Trace a bit more, but it's good. Aftertaste is lingeringly smooth and bitter.

Pours black with a low tan head perfectly separated. Aromas of chocolate, muscovado sugar, honey, bourbon, vanilla, oak. Taste is chocolate, honey, muscovado sugar, vanilla, dark dried berries, bourbon. Mouthfeel is smooth and silky with medium carbonation. Aftertaste is a perfect blend between vanilla, oak, honey and muscovado sugar. Just fantastic!! MrChopin (4305) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - SEP 11, 2011
jet black, thin large-bubbled head is coaxed with a vigorous pour but remains. Nose at first shows a dusty, oxidized malt, some unsweet bourbon, and a light soy. Reminds of aged 7000 without as much of the robust malt. Flavor is hotter up front, a thin but delicate body reminds of a nice rum-candy with warmth on the mid-palate, with some wood and cocoa through the lengthy finish, dry finish. Body and malt profile are a bit washed out but also chewy and overly sweet, some unfermented sugars remaining amidst near-balance. Still, I personally find the light body and lack of strong malt to be a trend growing too common from stout experimenters like CCB, Bruery, and now 50-50. And yet there is a ton of bourbon in this, which I’ve hardly mentioned, and I think this is because the bourbon blends so well with the base beer flavors. EC still very sweet but enough base beer qualities to merge with the barrel, again alcohol-laden candy aspects between the bourbon, vanilla, and ashy chocolate.
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2014 22 oz bottle. 2012 vintage. Pours black with light to moderate tan head. Aromas of rich dark roasted malts, pumpernickel/oatmeal, and alcohol. Flavors are similar with notes of toasted coconut and licorice. Big, full, and boozy. Very good but over priced - at least double that of equally good or better barrel aged Imperials. Smells like a glass of bourbon and coffee. Really sweet and candy-like. Tastes good but a bit hard to drink and not enough beer character. Grovlam (4257) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 23, 2010
6 Blind tasting at Papsoe 27-03-2010:
Bottle. Small off-white head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Dark color with a light reddish glow. Aroma of mild roasted malt, dried fruity, light grainy and dusty feel. Over the palate came heavy thick feel of liquorish, molasses, vanilla, Bourbon. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and alcoholic thick texture. Heavy sweet and some bitterness to counter. Lingering warming Bourbon liquorish finish.
