From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Andrew’s house on August 18. 22 oz bottle. The pour is a relatively dark brown/light black with a thin ring of head that fades off pretty quickly, leaving just liquid. The aroma is really messy. There is a wine dominance up front. A lot of oxidization exists in this one. There is a lot of barrel and a dark grape skin presence. Maybe a light tobacco on the back end? The flavor isn’t any better. It’s got the big wine dominance and the oxidization happening all over. There is a little more of a fruitiness, but it’s dry and dusty. The barrel is still resounding. The mouth feel is thinner and slick. It’s under carbonated and just falls off the tongue. The aftertaste is oxidized grape and barrel. This is really strange. A: Pure black with a creme, nearly cappuccino head, decent lacing.
N: Huge barrel and acetone. Big leather, red wine grape, and tobacco. Earthy. Some cocoa. Light coffee. Touch of oak. Lemon rind. Plenty of winen here, but also, far, far too much stout/porter.
T: Sweet, sour, and bitter.
M: Medium oily body, foamy carbonation, no alcohol.

Tasted on 11/12/11 on draft at FoBaB 2012. Pours opaque dark brown with an average tan, copper tinted head that leaves a nice collar. The nose is dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla and some alcoholic heat. The flavor is pretty sweet, more molasses and vanilla, with the dark chocolate and bitterness taking a back seat. Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malt and not too much else. The flavor is more complex. I get some big chocolate notes, as expected after the aroma, but it is complemented by some strong dark fruit (mainly cherries and grapes). I also get some oak and a nice red wine character. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice beer.

22 oz bottle from City Beer San Francisco. Pours a dark cola brown color with a medium sized khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have dark fruits, plums, figs over top of some roasted malt and chocolate. Aroma is very fruity with a lot of plum, prune and fig. Medium to medium light oxidation has set in adding some soy sauce and wet cardboard. Medium chocolate, light roast, light tobacco and leather. Some red wine notes as it warms.
Pours dark brown but not quite black with a small dark tan head that quickly recedes to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and small legs.
Flavor is similar to aroma but the fruit notes have a more red wine character to them. Still moderate plum and prune but now with a strong red wine element. Light oak notes with medium light chocolate and roast. Moderate tobacco and leather with light soy sauce. Light bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low tannic astringency with low alcohol warmth.
Overall an alright beer, but I don’t think age has done it any favors. The mouthfeel is a bit too thin and the beer is too small to support all the fruitiness. How: Bottle 22oz, consumed when around 12 months of age, a bonus bottle sent to me by MatSciGuy, thanks a lot Levi.
The look: Near black body topped by a medium tan head quickly dissipating to a bubbly ring of foam.
In long: Nose of burnt marshmallows, car tires, dark fruits. The aroma is not inviting at all but fortunately the rubber/car tires somehow do not show up in the taste. However the taste is kind of a strange mix bag. Roasted marshmallows, construction wood, some tannins, red wine, juicy grapes, vanilla, ink, some liquid caramel, some molasses. Unsatisfying mouthfeel with a juicy body and very low carbonation. Not too sure what to make of this one, certainly not what you’d expect from a Baltic Porter that’s for sure. The vinous character on this beer borders grapejuice territory and the virgin oak (construction wood sensation) is a bit too much for the frail juicy body. A perfect example of poorly integrated barrels. I didn’t like it. Listen brewers, I don’t work my ass off all day at work to get back home and drink a shitty beer like this, I certainly don’t, I never work my ass off at work.

The beer is dark brown with a half inch of beige head that leaves random traces of lacing on the snifter. The aroma brings a heavy barrel presence. Oak, wine, roast, chocolate. A bit tannic in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A solid beer.
