Draft. Brewer list this as 10.2%. Dark fruit, sweet chocolate, roasty malt aroma. Dark brown with a moderate tan head. Big black licorice, chocolate, dark fruit, roasty malt flavor. Pours a deep brown with almost no head and minimal lacing - aroma is actually quite light, but very nicely done with sweet chocolate, coffee notes, caramel malts, some dark fruits... Flavor is a bit more mild than I anticipated as well...lots of chocolate early (mostly sweet)....some bittering hops, coffee and chocolate again on the finish. Body is actually quite light, and at first this seemed to finish well too quickly, but then came on again and ended nicely. Overall this didn’t impress like the BB Rye Knot, but this was a fine beer in and of itself. Very easy drinking for an imperial stout. Tmoney99 (15226) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 1, 2011
Sample at IBGW 2011. Poured dark brown color with an average brown frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate and dark fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet malt flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This brew exceeded my expectations and was great with a cigar.

Tap(Nitro) : Deep brown nearly opaque with a solid creamy nitro head which left sticky lace upon the glassware. The aroma has note of bakers and milk chocolate, walnut and cashews, toasted bready and slight charred malts, some prune and plum esters, with a aromatic hop vapour. The taste is chocolaty milk dud sweet at first but there is a nice balance of coffee like bitterness and some EKG hop bitterness too. Mild dark fruity and acidity found as well. The mouth feel is slick and lush, while medium to light bodied, it was very drinkable, alcohol not very noticeable even with some medicinal notes. I really enjoyed this for it’s balance and slight restraint, think chocolate malt shake and you get the picture. Not over the top brashness and that is a good thing it it’s case.
