COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Habanero cider was inspired by the quest for something strange and a hankering for heat during the Strange Brew Fest that happened last winter in Port Townsend. Cidermaker Chris Weir, a man who likes his spice, surprised us one day by soaking chili peppers in cider and making it taste delicious!

The combination of chili heat and tart apple, mellowed by a dash of sweet, offers a memorable fermented adventure. We encourage you to enjoy this strange and wonderful cider in any latitude with rice and beans, fish tacos, mole enchiladas, burritos of all kinds, or just a crackling bowl of chips and salsa. Made with a blend or organic Washington apples and habanero chilies. Spicy & Semi-Sweet

Finnriver, Chimacum. Rich yellow, creamy white head. Touch of hot oil on nose. Clean heat. Really delicious. Great balance.

Bottle, gifted by Matt. Thanks! This sounds amazing. Anything with peppers makes my want list. A mostly pale apple juice pour with no head. A very solid hot pepper influence here. Breathe in too hard while sipping on this, and you will be coughing. Pepper heat, but doesn’t overpower the flavor. Apple still present. Cream. A fantastic cider to sip on and enjoy the massive flavor going on here. Very nice cider, one of the better ones in recent memory.

Visual: Batch #115B, hand numbered. Pours slightly hazy light orange-yellow with no head, some bubbles clinging to the mid-section of the glass, very active tight micro clusters.

Nose: sweet apple juice, nasal-tingly/cough-inducing habanero spicy. (lvl-8)-pungency

Attack: tart dry crisp juicy apple

Mid-palate: habanero med-high spicy heat, (lvl-2-sweetness), habanero flesh, thinnish green apple juice

Finish: lingering habanero biting heat, residual fruity apple

Summary: Certainly drinks like an aggressively experimental brew. Not quite full-feeling enough in the mids to balance out the heat. And a fair warning: don’t inhale while drinking.

500ml bottle at the December 2016 DC area cider tasting. Poured a clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma was spicy! Lots of hot habanero notes. Flavor wasn’t nearly as spicy - but the heat exists in this one. The gimmick was quite good in my opinion.

Bottle shared at the RateBeer DC Cider tasting. Clear golden yellow. Aromas of big hot habanero peppers. Tastes of apples, honey, pepper flesh. Light body with a dry finish. Light heat.

Pours a hazy yellow, tastes just like you’d picture-- chili peppers. It’s definitely not too sweet, which is often peoples’ complaints. I didn’t personally love it, but as a cider it’s well made and easy to drink.

On draft at Tin Bucket - pours mild hazy pale yellow with a white head. The aroma has fairly sweet apple, wild yeast and mild heat. It has a pretty light body with a light amount of prickly carbonation. The flavor starts with sweet clean sharp apple then the heat from the peppers swoops in and overtakes a lot of the taste is a nice way. The finish really hits what it says it is and has a nice balance of cider sweetness and pepper bite.

16.9 oz bottle. Aroma is apples, hot peppers (stings the nostrils), floral, soap, earth. Pours clear golden with a ring of white foam. Taste is very tart before extreme heat quickly takes over. There’s something off in both flavor and aroma that’s keeping me from enjoying this completely. This is really unique and I still want to finish the bottle even with the off-notes, though.
