a very nice musky hop aroma. I liked this beer just for tha reason. I very nice hoppy taste that is entirely masked by the hops with a bit of an unbalanced hoppy, malty taste. Not very fruity, and not very complex, but tasty, and enjoyable just the same. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - AUG 3, 2003
Nice musky herbal hop aroma with an apparent malt background. A little less amber colored for an amber, light head and little lacing. Watered down IPA flavor with nothing redeeming but on the other hand not dissapointing. Not very dry or bitter like most IPAs, an almost tangy grapefruity finish. I was expecting much worse for a Fred Meyer IPA. GreatStelle (363) - Chico, California, USA - AUG 2, 2003
This Ipa is not bad. The hoppy flavor is finished with a nice bitter taste. Not bad for such a small brewery. baobubba (454) - Starkville, Mississippi, USA - JUL 11, 2003
Dark golden. Citrusy hop aroma with faint pine, spice, and applejuie. A little weak with some carmelly sweet notes. A grapefruit rind finish kind of turned me off though. I wonder if they are using Amarillo hops in here... fgfats (10) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 10, 2003
One of the better IPA's that I have had. Very nice balance of flavors with a nice hoppy taste.

Bought 1 to try. Not a spectacular IPA but not bad either. Reasonably hopped and perhaps a bit rough? in the finish. A tad thin. Reminds me of Redhook IPA.. P-tor44 (886) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - MAR 27, 2003
floral grassy hop aroma. bronze color, minimal head. sweet malt that doesn't complement the hops well at all. drank in the car on the way to wyoming Murphy (1759) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - OCT 16, 2002
This was alright. Strong hop flavor and scent make this an acceptable IPA. Only tastes a little bit mass produced. Very good for something made by Fred Meyer. Try the porter too. kyzr (1545) - Montana, USA - OCT 13, 2002
Picked this up at a Fred Meyer in Seattle. Know very little about it, but this is a good drinking IPA. Nice head, great color in the glass, has a nice balance of flavors. Like kingpinhead, I found it really suprising. KingPinHead (390) - Des Moines, Washington, USA - SEP 17, 2002
8/18/02: This is one the house brand offerings from the Fred Meyer grocery chain. Aroma is surprisingly fresh--very nice fruit/hop nose...Color also attractive light copper/amber with acceptable head and lace. Flavor features nicely bittered hop profile with slight tangy edges, which turns grapefruity in the finish. Body is a tad lighter than optimum, but it is not watery. Malt could supply a little more flavor support as well for balance, but this has plenty of flavor as it is. This is a most pleasant surprise. Information is scant on the so-called ’Fire Station 5’ operation, meaning it is almost certainly a contract product. Regardless, it is most drinkable and enjoyable at a very reasonable price. Re-Rate 9/17/02: Opinions on internal qualities hold as before, but this time it looked quite stunning in the glass--orange tints and a fine rilled head...Not bad for a house brand at all!
