3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Chriso Snow Tasting, thanks to Jan, 20/01/13.
Very dark mahogony brown, hazed, thin tan head clears to bubbles at the edge.
Nose carries sugars, toffee, hint of coconut, booze.
Taste comprises dark sugars, dark toffee, dark malts, moderate booze kick, light chocolate.
Full bodied with soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, a little booze in the finish.
Fair complex and well balanced, the alcohol is well hidden.
July 28, 2015. Tasting at jtclockwork’s, thanks for sharing!jtclockwork (16856) - , New Jersey, USA - JUL 28, 2015
Murky brown with a small frothy tan head. Aroma is quite oxidized, some toffee, raisin, notes of sherry, hints of dark berries, oak and alcohol. Taste is sweet with caramel, dried fruits, oak, light bitterness with cardboard, toffee, sherry and cardboard in the finish. Medium bodied, a bit watery finish, soft carbonation.
Age has taken its toll...
Bottle. Pours dark brown - nose/taste of oxidized caramel, burnt bread, molasses and sherry - medium body. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - JUL 28, 2015
Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Old aromas, oxidation, booze and some sweet aromas. Oxidation, cardboard, sweetness, and mint, age hasn’t done well. BiiruBierBeer (1056) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JAN 3, 2015
Malty bourbon smell. Taste has notes of minerals, malt, and chocolate. Good, but not great. Tmoney99 (14752) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 20, 2014
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured light brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sweet malt, wood and earth alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor to medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a mature complex beer.

22 oz bottle shared with the group. Pours a clear brown color with a small beige ring. The aroma and flavor have caramel, molasses, brown sugar, alcohol (still?), some bitterness, wood, aged fruits, oxidation is there, downhill from when I had this in 2011 but still pretty good for its age. b3shine (9016) - Indiana, USA - JUL 13, 2014
Bomber to snifter (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good for the style; a translucent dark hazelnut with very light beige head that steadily dissipates into bubbly lacing. Smells solid; dark fruit, oak, and toffee. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Some oxidization present. Still, enjoyable. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 13, 2014
22oz bottle, thanks to local raters for sharing. Labeled 12%. Mildly hazy dark brown color. Minimal ring of off-white head, dots of lace. Vinous, raisin, dark fruit aromas in the nose. Medium to bigger body, a little thinner than expected. Lightly slick texture. Some alcohol warmth, mild burn at the end, but it’s not awful. In the flavor, more roast, dark malt, stout-like flavors. Bigger bitter taste, little sweet. More dry. A little hot and intense, but pretty cool stuff. Tasting better than expected for being 7 years old or so. Bottle, thnx to NorCalGrowler, shared with friends. Pours a pitch black beer with a small beige head that settles into a small ring. Looks very daunting. Aroma is madeira, port, caramel, fudge and vanilla. Some oak characters still lingering on in the background, but the port and madeira are taking over the palate in a good way. Flavor is incredibly sweet and has again a big load of madeira in there. Some bourbon and oak flavors in the background again, but you can definitely tell that this beer has age on it, and it has aged very well. Very complex and balanced and a true treat to drink this stuff. Amazing! jmgreenuk (9708) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - NOV 14, 2013
Poured a clear dark brown with a reddish hue and a light frothy head. The aroma is big creamy caramel fudge roasted malt alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a smooth boozy alcohol bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation and an oily texture. This is a super smooth, flavour packed whale of a beer where the higher ABV really adds to this beer which isn’t always the case. Taste it if you can and i’m sorry for you you guys that can’t.
