COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year, 17 winemakers convened in late August to help create the blend for XX. As always, they were tasked with creating their own preferred blends, with all of these initial blends later being blind tasted on the group. After votes were cast, the blend by Scott Hawley of Torrin Vineyard was deemed the winner and became the basis for XX.

“It’s always a friendly but competitive gathering,” Brynildson said. “Collectively, the winemakers’ input is invaluable, because they are practicing experts in the art of blending.”

With XX, this proven process yielded a beer for the ages. “There is just so much going on in this beer,” Brynildson said. “It’s big and complex, with all of these different facets from our barrel-aged program that are so seamlessly integrated. We wanted to produce something really special for our 20th anniversary, and I think we did it.”

The Final Blend:
Parabola / Aged in New Oak and Bourbon Barrels / 40% of Final Blend
Stickee Monkee / Aged in Bourbon and Brandy Barrels / 20% of Final Blend
Velvet Merkin / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 17.5% of Final Blend
Bravo / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 12.5% of Final Blend
Helldorado / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 10% of Final Blend

Deep amberish brown under a thin light tan head. Lovely nose of brown malty roastiness with brown sugary oak and vanilla and bourbon. Smooth soft but full and warming flavor that's woody and cocoa'd and bourbonish. Nice vanilla and smooth and dark and chocolaty-ish with Barleywine like notes.

Tide (4220) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 9, 2017
Bottle from Beer Hall SF. Dark brown, minimal beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, dried fruits, oak, bourbon, resin, toffee, nuts and a bit of hops. Bitter finish with roasted malts, dried fruits, resin, oak, toffee, nuts, bourbon and a bit of alcohol. Exquisite American strong ale.

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Nose brings out lots of dried dark fruit, caramel, bourbon, some light liqueur and some brown sugar. Flavour is very complex, with plenty of bourbon upfront, tempered by brown sugar dark dried fruits and toasted caramel. The bourbon is prominent, but not overbearing. Moderately sweet, but nowhere close to cloying. Probably not on the level of some previous years, but certainly a decadent treat nonetheless.

Bottle @ Home. Just about black in color with a khaki head. Decently roasty and heavy on the booze. A nice dark cocoa and chocolate thin going on as well. Tastes like brownies and hot fudge. Pretty rich and sweet. Some oak, booze, and bourbon. Nice toffee and burnt sugar. Solid boost.

650ml bottle. Pours an unclear red-brown with lots of sediment floating around and a small, short lived, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of chocolate malt, caramel, toffee, figs, dates, raisins, cherry, vanilla, bourbon and oak. Sweet flavour of chocolate malt, caramel, toffee, light roast, brown sugar, figs, dates, raisins, cinnamon, cherry, vanilla, licorice, molasses and oak with a warming bourbon finish. Full body with a creamy, smooth, sticky texture and soft carbonation. Simply amazing and downright sinful. A world class and possibly even worlds best ASA.

Draft in a snifter glass appearing dark in color with next to nothing as far as head. boozy, oaky, toffee aromas and flavors. There is an underlying roasted character too, but overall this is a super heavy brown. Complex and solid.

bergstaden (3161) - Røros, NORWAY - AUG 10, 2017
Olmost black with off white head - Dark malt aroma with wood, vanilla, and some dark fruity tones - Dark malt body wood, bourbon and vanilla with dark fruity flavours with some hints of hop bitterness - The dark malt and fruity flavours along with wood and bourbon goes into a long finish that has the alcohol well hidden - This was real good

Smells surprisingly light, some Belgian candi sugar and dark fruit. Very dark brown with no head. Tastes of bourbon barrel, chocolate and brown sugar. Very drinkable, not harsh. Slick and smooth palate. I wouldn't give this 100 but I would gladly drink it again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

vyvvy (6639) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 31, 2017
It pours deep brown with a very small head. The aroma has caramel, toffee, heavy toast, vanilla, coconut, horehound candy and some woody barrel. It has a smooth rich body with light sharp carbonation. The taste is big and rich with the aroma notes and a bit of booze. Unsurprising a huge winner here.

Bule (2239) - California, USA - JUL 17, 2017
22oz bottle pours a dark brown color without much head. Silly smooth texture. Rich yet mild bourbon flavors balance perfectly. Nice molasses sugars.
