COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year, 17 winemakers convened in late August to help create the blend for XX. As always, they were tasked with creating their own preferred blends, with all of these initial blends later being blind tasted on the group. After votes were cast, the blend by Scott Hawley of Torrin Vineyard was deemed the winner and became the basis for XX.

“It’s always a friendly but competitive gathering,” Brynildson said. “Collectively, the winemakers’ input is invaluable, because they are practicing experts in the art of blending.”

With XX, this proven process yielded a beer for the ages. “There is just so much going on in this beer,” Brynildson said. “It’s big and complex, with all of these different facets from our barrel-aged program that are so seamlessly integrated. We wanted to produce something really special for our 20th anniversary, and I think we did it.”

The Final Blend:
Parabola / Aged in New Oak and Bourbon Barrels / 40% of Final Blend
Stickee Monkee / Aged in Bourbon and Brandy Barrels / 20% of Final Blend
Velvet Merkin / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 17.5% of Final Blend
Bravo / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 12.5% of Final Blend
Helldorado / Aged in Bourbon Barrels / 10% of Final Blend

Bomber poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of chocolate, coconut, oak, vanilla, light cherry and light bourbon. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, light fruitiness and a hint of coconut with a smooth lingering chocolate bourbon finish.

Bottle, 650 ml, from Barrelworks. Shared with Miro, JFK10000, Max. My 5000th Untappd checkin. Pours dark brown with medium tan head. Coffee, caramel, toffee, nuts, sweet, some dark fruit, somewhat oily, super drinkable for ABV, warming. Medium bodied. Expected a bit more thickness, bit more barleywineish than expected. I've liked XVIII more, but this is excellent as well.

Bottle. Brown pour with an off white head. Boozy bouquet. Cheap whiskey highlights give way to bitter almost astringent oak/bitter roasty notes. Thin in the body. Average mouthfeel.

Chalumeaux with a 22 oz. bottle. Just a tad over a year old. Thanks for sharing TJ. (Glad I have a bottle). Pitch black color, no head. Aroma is red grapes, dark fruit, chocolate, bourbon, Brandy barrel. Awesome. The flavor really opens as it warms up. Layers of flavor. Dark fruits, molasses, chocolate, oak, coffee. Finish is balanced with all sorts of flavors. Oak, bourbon, grapes, raisin, deep chocolate, red wine. Holy hell!! Just for over a year old, not hot at all. Smooth as all shit. Did I type holy hell? Yes, I did, booze is totally hidden. Wonderful in ever regard. How could anyone give this less than a 4? Are you high on some sort of mind altering drugs??

Alcoholic. Very sweet. Tastes like a kind of whiskey. Had a bottle sitting in the cellar for 2 years. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Pinocchio’s. Chestnut brown pour with amber hue. No head or lacing. Hugely sweet candied sugar aroma. Molasses and maple flavor that I wasn’t hugely fond of. Some candy, some cocoa. It’s complex, I’ll give it that. Overall, a tad disappointing becaus I love just about everything FW.
