COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Feral Vinifera is our foray into a new and exciting adventure in the Santa Ynez Valley, that expresses our collaborative efforts with local grape growers and winemakers. Its journey begins with the sourcing and pressing of grapes from David Walker’s vineyard, co-fermenting the juice with a wheat-based wort, inoculating with proprietary wild yeast and bacteria, and allowing for a long fermentation and maturation in French Oak barrels. We have carefully fermented, matured and blended this beer with the collaboration of our friend, Andrew Murray, proprietor/winemaker at Andrew Murray Vineyards. The resulting cuvee; a partnership of Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Muscat grapes co-fermented with wheat based wort-bends the mind and senses. Pineapple, mango, guava mingle with Meyer lemon and gooseberry. A funky savory yeast bouquet lays down a firm foundation, fruity esters and tart acidity lend body and structure. Finishing with a flinty minerality, woody tannins and vinous perfume.

Bottle. Big funky grape aroma, white wine, and huge oakiness. Clear gold color. Very tart initial, with lots of grapes, peaches, some tropical fruit, tannins from the oak, and some tangy pineapple notes in the mix. Smooth body. 14 months on oak. Not entirely beer like. But it has a controlled ans well-rounded sort of tartness. Delicious.

Bottle. Brilliant gold, honey-like, with lace. Nose is grapes, oak, buttery oaked white wine, lemon, some horse blanket. Tart, wine-like flavor, some buttery oak, kind of like a wild yeast Chablis. Moderately sour, some pineapple and peach notes, with a tingly, peppery finish. Lovely stuff.

Bottle from the source. Flatbush golden orange pour. Kinda tame for their sours, but becomes more complex as it warms. Glad I see orange muscat grapes as a component - not imagining the citrus. Grape and orange, vanilla and wood. Lightly sour. Pretty cool, if not quite as awesome as I’d hoped.

Bottle, thanks to Torben. Hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma combines white wine with funky beer, and a little funk. Dry and tart fruity flavour with white wine, kiwi and gooseberry, with a touch of alcohol.

Acoustic yellow pour from the bottle with aroams of funk, grapes, light vineous wood, and some hay. Flavors are sour, grapes, and wet wood, very nice, could drink this all day.

Smells and tastes like a really nice general sour with some white and green grape notes. Medium body, light carbonation, and no foam.

Bottle [from trade but totally forgot with whom, my apologies!] shared with Countbeer and Thompson. Unclear orangy color, no head. Smell and taste citrus peel, quite sour, fruitpeel sour. Pretty sour and a bit too much for me.

Bottle: Duvel glass: Quick disappearing white head. Cloudy yellow body. Aroma has loads of funk, wild yeast, wood, sewer, cellar fruit, cellar dust, grapes, white vinous tones and some overused/light rotten wood/light cardboard tints... Flavour has loads of different berries and grapes, earthy and cellar tones, subtle tartness, yellow fruit, soft wood, light funk and vinous tones with a bretty jacket... Tart dry filled with juicy vinous fruits. Aftertaste has lot of grape and some berry fruits, light tart, light wood and crispy brett tints. Low carbo, light creamy ligt dry tart mouthfeel, more than just medium bodied. I have to admit, this is a wonderfull Sour Ale!

Bottle shared by a generous soul at a Tampa weekly tasting. Pours a hazy yellow with a thin white head. Nose is oak, grapes, mild funk, and some lovely malt to blend with. Flavor is similar with oak, grapes, funk, and some malt. Light in body and very delicious.
