COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Imperial Blonde Ale or Blonde Barley Wine; Helldorado has the lightest color of any of the beers in our barrel program but carries a great deal of interesting barrel character: vanilla, light char and amazing lavender-honey notes. Rich boozy honey liqueur character and loads of smooth sweet toasted malt to finish. The El Dorado hops dance in the background without playing a dominant role in the flavor profile. This beer gets better and better the longer it is in barrel.

On tap at XVI Celebration, multiple samples.

Appearance: Pours a bright amber gold. White film and edges.

Aroma: Citrusy hop, honey, fruit punch.

Taste: Toasty malt, euro hops, banana esters, vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Astringent, medium bodied, low carb.

Oveerall: A really odd barley wine. Didn’t get much barrel either. Doesn’t make it south often, so glad I could try it.

Bottle. 2015. Nose of sugared stone fruit, coconut, and vanilla. Hazy orange/blond color. Flavors of coconut, spiced stone fruit, vanilla, aged dried citrus peel, and barrel, Heavy body, lightened up a bit some rather spritzy carbonation. Wonderful.

KyotoLefty (10689) - Kyoto, JAPAN - NOV 4, 2017
2015 bottle. Nose of hone, vanilla, bourbon, marshmallow, and a strange spiciness that reminds me of wasabi somehow. Also toasted coconut. Luscious and seems sweet at first but finishes nicely dry, so easy to drink. Lovely.

Sample at Beer Meets Wood on 09/23/2017. Cloudy mahogany color with a medium beige head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing. Aroma of oak, malt, fruit and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of bourbon, caramel malt, ripe fruit and vanilla. The finish is boozy with a malt and piney hop aftertaste. Good beer overall.

Tap. Clearer fold. Lots of marshmallow, light hop earthiness, soft fruit sweetness, light vanilla and oak in both flavor and aroma. Medium slick body. Reminds me of Wooden Hell in the best sort of way.

I am rating the 2017 release, which clocks in at 12.8 %. 12-ounce bottle pours clear orange-gold with no head and minimal off-white lacing. Aroma: caramelized white sugar, nectarines, peaches, apricots. Flavor: malt-forward (caramel, toffee, honey, brown sugar) with coconut, vanilla, wood, smoke. Mouthfeel: full-bodied, oily.

Poured from 355mL bottle [2017 vintage; No. 003; ABV listed at 12.8%]. Orangey yellow with quickly dissipating minimal off-white head. Vanilla and honey, caramel malt, wood, mild dried fruit, alcohol has a medium burn. Lots of flavour, but not a lot of depth. Medium body with flavours doing more of a hit and run.
