Tap at Malt and Vine. Nearly black with little head. Aroma of burnt chocolate. Taste the same. Some smokiness. Medium body. mcberko (17178) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 1, 2017
On tap at Elizabeth Station, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is very earthy upfront, with notes of feet, BO,earthy notes and wood - can’t shake the feet and BO notes. Flavour is thankfully a lot better, with lots of earthy notes, what taste like rye barrels, and a little vanilla. The nose really messes this up for me. I’m going to be a dink rater on this one and say I’m not impressed - while the taste is fairly pleasant, the aromatics intrude on the enjoyment on this. Brewery only release in bombers 500 cases, this one is from the brewery store in Paso Robles label says barrel aged and according to the employee I talked to it was bourbon barrels. There was a non barrel aged 10% draft only version last year. Nose is smoky, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, and a hint of bourbon. Clear very dark brown with a smaller tan head. Flavor is vanilla, smoky char, and chocolate with a nice bourbon note. Extremely well balanced and very tasty!!!
