COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fortem is a new-age imperial IPA that draws upon a range of influences, all while exhibiting DNA from our own forays into the IPA style. As such, it blends newer hop varieties from the Pacific Northwest and Hallertau, Germany along with pale malt, wheat malt and flaked oats for a full body and rounded mouthfeel. Fortem has been left unfiltered for a full hop impact.

Pours a hazy light golden with a big white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is fruity with pineapple and mango along with a touch of juicy fruit. Taste leans more toward balance than expected but still predominately hoppy with tropical that is mango forward. Also some herbal and resin character and maybe a hint of biscuit. There is some bitterness but it doesn’t overwhelm. The mouthfeel is very soft and semi creamy with a medium body and medium/high carbonation. Very nice first offering in this new series.

Pours a fairly hazy light amber with a decent white head. Aroma is sweet pineapple, nectarine. Taste is big, fruity up front, pineapple. Leads to a moderately bitter middle with a nice malty kick that rounds it off. Finishes lightly bitter with more malt. Medium to high carbonation, nice full bodied. Really rather good!

Tap at Eureka Burger, San Luis Obispo. Piney nose, pungent and tickling, caramel, and toffee. Copper/brown color. Piney flavors, and a load of caramel, tangy stone fruit. Gets to the edge of cloying in mid palate and then pulls back. Heavy body. Very rich flavors. Seems even heavier than 8%,

Pours cloudy amber with low white head. Aroma of mellow grapefruit, pine, bit of resin and caramel. Classic West Coast DIPA. Taste is mellow caramel sweet followed by a light pine bitter finish. Light and smooth with soft carbonation. I really enjoyed this, it's nice to come across one of these very balanced WC DIPAs now and then in this age of hazy juice bombs!

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2017 Nice bright aroma of pineapple soda, and oranges. The body is very hazy mid orange in color, the cap is thick and leaves thick lacing. The palate is medium with a mild carbonation bite. Flavor is grapefruit, bits of pine with the malts coming out on the backside. Rather drinkable for an IIPA, not real big or overwhelming.

Draft pours hazy golden with a lasting white head. Aroma is very good, west coast IPA, citrus, both pine itself and the apple of the pine. Flavor is slightly sweet acme packing a decent punch of citrus and pine hops. Medium full, well carbonated, not too syrupy. Very solid.

September 2017 - Can share at Leighton's. Huge thanks! As 'Firestone Walker Leo v. Ursus #1: Fortem'. Golden orange, still and slightly hazy, foamy off-white head leaves light lacing. Aroma has some light tangerine, a little chalk. Body is light and frothy with soft carbonation. Taste is pink mice sweets, dusty dried citrus, syrupy backbone, resinous and floral-chalky hops. Quite sweet but tasty. (7-4-7-4-15=3.7)

16-ounce can pours clear slightly hazy gold with tiny off-white head and lacing. Aroma: citrus, honey, floral, pine. Flavor: pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, honey, pine, macadamia nuts. Mouthfeel: full-bodied, oily, lingering bittersweetness.

Tall boy can pours with a near clear deep gold body that supports a full off white head of foam. The aroma offers up banana, bubble gum, apple, pear and a hit of honey. The taste delivers banana and bubble gum. It gets a touch peppery to midway as sweet apple and pear like fruity esters as well as orange blossom honey bubble to the surface. Meh. Not sure what this is supposed to be.
