Rich black color; Heavy creamy body; Aroma of smoky malt, oak, vanilla, some bourbon, & licorice; Flavor of roasted/burnt sweet malt, caramel/molasses, dark chocolate, hops, dark fruit, vanilla, and licorice; Finish is slightly bitter; Nicely balanced & complex; A bit sweet - but very good overall. maneliquor (3514) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 17, 2012
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours black with a lovely tan head which lasts for the duration leaving not much lacing. Nose is quite sweet with vanilla, molasses, oak and chocolate. Comes together nicely. Very, very sweet in the taste. Loads of vanilla with subtle hints of cocoa and bourbon. Nice beer, but a little too unbalanced and sweet. Still enjoyable dpento1 (236) - Virginia, USA - JUN 16, 2012
2011 Batch - Pours a beautiful black with a reddish brown hue, with a tan head with red highlights. Bid aroma with notes of Chocolate, espresso, and woody undertones. Very smooth with sweet fruits, bourbon, cask wood, and mild malts. Not overly complex, but balanced perfectly! Finishes with a little vanilla and bourbon, mild warming from the alcohol. I was skeptic about the price when I purchased this a year ago, but worth it. I wish I had bought two! User134089 (1644) - - JUN 15, 2012
Poured from a draft into a snifter at San Diego Brewing Company in San Diego, Calif., on June 15. About a finger of head when I got it. Color was black with tints of purple in it. Brown, coffee and caramel lacing. Good retention.
Smelled chocolate, caramel, chocolate milk and some light coffee malts. Also some dark fruit, maybe plum? Great smell.
Tasted a big dose of alcohol right away, mainly bourbon. That gave way to caramel, toffee, chocolate and light coffee.
Full body. Average carbonation. Creamy texture. Smooth finish. The feel was the best part of this beer by far. I wish I could have given this a 5.5. Just phenomenal. I kept craving another taste when I put the glass down.
I’ve been wanting to try this beer for awhile and it didn’t disappoint. Just a marvelous beer. timfoolery (1126) - California, USA - JUN 14, 2012
2012 Bottle from DBS. Aroma and flavor was of chocolate, bourbon, and toffee. Palate is great for the style. Also had a fair bit of coffee flavor. Really was a great beer, as every special release from Firestone Walker. Simply excellent beer.

batch 003 bottle. pour is dark, but not yet black, with a thin light brown head that fades. The aroma is powerful with burnt oak and malt, and don’t really get any bourbon in the nose. The taste is smooth, faint bourbon, but more oak and burnt notes than anything else. You still get a lot of a typical RIS characteristics in the base of the beer. Top notch beer. egajdzis (6501) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 11, 2012
Opaque black with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, smoke, roasted malts, and alcohol. Taste of roast, smoke, char, vanilla, dark chocolate, and bourbony alcohol in the finish. RoyalFlushing (326) - Mamaroneck, New York, USA - JUN 10, 2012
On tap @ Capone’s. Poured a deep black with a medium sized creamy tan head and notable lacing. Aroma of vanilla oak, toasted bread, coffee, plum, licorice, and cocoa. Taste is semi-sweet chocolate, plum, roasted malt, and oak. Nice mouthfeel and smooth finish with chocolate and slight alcohol warmth. Tmoney99 (14365) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 7, 2012
Bottle. Poured black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Aroma was a heavy toasted malt, strong coffee and dark chocolate. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Heavy complex toasted malt, wood and chocolate flavor and a heavy complex dark chocolate finish of long duration. This is a standout beer.

A: Oak, bourbon, dark fruits, acohol, hint of mollasses and vanilla. T: Dark fruits, bourbon, oak, chocolate, bitter coffee. M: Thick and chewy, finishes warm. O: Delicious of course but I remember batch 2 being much more flavorful with lots of sweet vanilla which wasnt present in this new batch so that was a bit of bummer.
