UPDATED: SEP 14, 2012 Viscous black pour with a thin ring of head. Slightly boozy aroma with a definite bourbon presence. Oaky, roast, chocolate and coffee aromas are all quite pleasing to my olfactory as I swirl my shifter. Taste is sweet, yet bitter, with heavily roasted malts. Some notes of coffee, tobacco, leather, oak, vanilla, and bourbon. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted that many things. Palate is thick and chewy, yet surprisingly carbonated for its heft. Finishes with a long bitter roastiness. Wait, there’s HOW MUCH alcohol in this? No way! I don’t believe it. The quintessential bourbon barrel stout. brewskis (123) - Saint John, Indiana, USA - JUL 19, 2012
UPDATED: OCT 19, 2012 On tap at Maple Tree Inn in Illinois. Pours a viscous black with a small dark tan head that dissipates quickly. Very dark and ominous looking. Lots of roasted flavors in the aroma: dark chocolate, some coffee, lots of charred oak, and some tobacco. Also get some boozy notes. Great complex smell. Tastes very much like it smells. Many of the flavors are roasted and charred. Some smoky dark chocolate and oak at first and then finishes with some black coffee and roasted oaky vanilla notes. Great boozy finish from the bourbon barrels that lasts and warms you up. Definitely an oily full body with minimal carbonation. Just a wonderful, complex imperial stout. More caramel and toffee in this release. Almost butterscotch at first. Big intense malt flavors. Mouthfeel is almost creamy. Absolutely excellent!
** Original review : Poured dark almost black, minimal dark brown foam and lacing. At first the smell was almost fruity with caramel. Then I get more bourbon. Taste is deep roasty malt, caramel/vanilla and some chocolate with a bit of alcohol in the finish. Also a bit of smoke in there too. As it warms it sweetens some and the caramel, vanilla and bourbon becomes more prominent. Mouthfeel is a bit heavy bit not thick, light carbonation. Overall an excellent beer. Highly recommended. Wish I had a few more. luttonm (6761) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 18, 2012
Draft at The Pine Box. Blackest brown, full head. pretty. Rich maple, coffee malt, oaky aromas. Lactic and maple syrup, this is a quite thick beer, but balances the alc and the sweetness. Clean, chocolate, oak. Very very nice. jiminjingu (6) - New York, USA - JUL 15, 2012 does not count
Thanks to Gordon I was able to try this beautiful beer. After coaxing a little out of the bottle, the rest of it seemed to flow. Its not a beer to be taken lightly and if I was going to get anthropomorphic I would say it is a living, breathing animal of a beer. The mouth-feel is incredible with layers of earthy tastes including coffee, nuts, chocolate. What a beer?

Bottle at Blue Palms. 2011 vintage. Opaque black liquid with brown hue and a small to medium tan head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, biscuit, bourbon, dark chocolate, coconut, cereal and caramel. Reminds me a lot of "Vaniljrån". Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of vanilla, oak, dark chocolate and bourbon. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation and a really smooth and velvety mouthfeel. Great beer. Absolutely delicious. sthlm (790) - Blank, Alabama, USA - JUL 15, 2012
[Bottle, thanks Guerde!] Pours dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma is big on maple syrup and deeply roasted malt. The taste has some alcohol, coconut, and roasted malt. Thick mouthfeel, smooth, and has a long finish. Overall, a really solid barrel aged beer, and one that I’m glad I had a chance to try. Thanks again, Andy! fiulijn (21264) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 14, 2012

Black color, with small brownish head. Very nice aroma of chocolate, rice, roasted malt, soy sauce and chinese food, medium Bourbon vanilla, leather; some alcohol later; after some time, it reaches greatness.
Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; the chocolate flavor is intense, there is some roasted malt, tobacco, Bourbon vanilla, traces of soy sauce, and an ending alcohol warmth; it has a pleasant degree of sweetness.
A big-ass beer.
Had this at pour-a-palooza 2012. Pours dark brown with a nice cream head. Smells rich with tobacco, oak, and bourbon. Wow, this tastes amazing. Really complex and creamy with oak and bourbon notes. This was the star of the festival for me. Delicious. omhper (25744) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - JUL 14, 2012
Bottled, thanks fiulijn! Black, beige head. Aroma of asphalt and licorice . Dry up front, full bodied with clean mouthfeel. Lots of licorice, heavily salty. Welcoming and flavourful, with plenty of bitter cocoa and some alcohol heat. Some oak and vanilla. Inky bitter finish.
