COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our first foray into the funky world of lambic style beers. These traditional Belgian style ales are exposed to both wild yeast and bacteria, as well as the addition of fruit, during the secondary fermentation. Ours began back in 2010, with the blend of two wheat ales and inoculated with Brettanomyces Lambicus, Brettanomyces Bruxellensis and lactobacillus. We then added ollalieberries—no, that’s not a typo—and waited patiently for two years! The result is amazing: a distinctively, dry, cidery, fruity, vinuous and oh-so sour beer. Bracing and refreshing.

Last draft at Propagator in Santa Monica. Surprising color of light grape juice with a bubbly white ring. Funky aroma that also has some raspberry with seeds. Huge sour flavor that makes your mouth water but still maintains a light fruitiness. Damn tasty.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle from the first vintage. Aroma has moderate berry notes with hints of tannins. Some light grape juice like notes. Hints of oak. Light pineapple and citrus acidic notes. Pours a rather clear, purplish red with a small, thin, pinkish head that disappears immediately after forming. No lacing or legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with a moderate acidity that is only a slight bit sharp. Moderate berry notes with a light concord grape like character as well. Medium light tannins. Light oak notes. Light earthy, hay funk. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but its a bit thin and watery. The berry notes are nice and well balanced. The funk is a bit underwhelming and too faint. Finishes too dry and thin.

Unusual hybrid berry, and unique berry beer. Substantive tart and yet berry juice sweetness. Worth seeking out. Dark berry colour. Wild and berry aroma. Delicious.

Pours pinkish purple with a small white head. Very nice mix of aromas, really winey, earthy, berries. Medium carbonation with a lactic bite, lots of red wine like character, reminds me of Pinot Noir, blackberry in the aftertaste. This is so drinkable, well balanced wild ale. I wish more american breweries would be inspired by these kinds of balanced wild ales. Not a sour bomb at all, and it’s a great thing.
