COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

From 22 ounce bomber bought in Las Vegas. Pours a dark carmel color, with bubbles adhering to the side of my glass. The aroma is pure heaven, with the bourbon and oak notes giving way to the malty sweetness, chocolate and booze. Taste is sweet up front, followed by a tobacco dryness that balances the palate perfectly! My only regret is that I only brought one bottle home with me!

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2014 22oz bottle, poured into a snifter. This beer has everything you would ever want from a BA Barelywine. Aroma is intense, taste is soo complex, I could drink this every day. Definitely better than last years batch.

ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - JUN 2, 2013
Light-bodied in appearance, this bottle of perfection is dark brown in color with a soda-like carbonation that adheres to the sides of my glass. I could smell this all day long. It’s sweet, woody, alcoholic, and slightly of Bourbon. When I die I want this on my death bed... in my hand. It’s amazing in the mouth, the perfect balance of light bodiedness, maltiness, alcohol and hops, all perfectly blended. It’s smooth, with a touch of dark, candy like sweetness. This is godly. It’s the perfect balance of all worlds. Just the right amount of everything, with enough hair on its chest to be beefy - but not so much that you get hair in your teeth. I wish I could drink this every day... for breakfast, lunch, dinner, second lunch, second dinner, midnight snack... I’m in love.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2015 Bomber->snifter. Medium murky brown with bare head. Aroma is boozy molasses. Taste is bready malt, molasses, booze. Bitter cloying aftertaste. Too boozy. Cellaring should be required to soften the harshness. 3.7. Update: draft at Mekong. Either it is better on tap or my palate has advanced, probably both. Much better balanced, and not as overly boozy, than I recall on first tasting in May 2013. Very tasty.

22 oz bottle from Belmont Station. Reviewed from notes. A: Ruddy mahogany with a firm creme colored head. Some particles land on the glass when this is swirled. N: Caramel, vanilla, malt, oak, and toffee. Bourbon is well-integrated. Brown sugar, honey, and syrup. Some cola. Has a lot of rich flavors. T: Tastes of bourbon mixed with a round sweetness and a tempering bitterness. Lots of flavors of the wood are showing through here. DOesn’t destroy the palate, and that’s a good thing. M: Not as heavy as expected, and there’s a high amount of carbonation which I don’t enjoy. Alcohol is somewhat pronounced. O: A very solid beer that seems to be missing a little extra oomph. Enjoying it, even if it reminds me a bit of a low-end bourbon.

22oz bottle, thanks to cbkschubert. 2011 vintage, labeled "Abacus". Shared with Blake. Dark red / brown color. Clear around the edges. Thin khaki head, couple loose dots of lace. Very nice color. Bigger body. Very light carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Nice smooth kind of velvety lightly chewy texture. Huge aroma and flavor. Nice wood, caramel malts, big earthy hop, some chocolate, light roast.. Very complex aroma. Sweeter taste. Little warmth in the finish. Awesome, complex, massive barleywine.

Pouts dark brown almost black with no head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla and caramel. Taste is sweet toffee, caramel and vanilla. Followed by bourbon and oak. A sipper for sure but still well balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
