It pours opaque mahogany with plum highlights on the edges; the head is off-white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: prunes, dates, brown sugar, molasses, caramel, and tobacco. The taste is medium sweet that finishes medium bitter; there are notes of: prunes, dates, tobacco, burnt sugar, and alcohol. The palate is full-bodied, thick, sticky, has light carbonation, and a long bitter finish. Overall, it’s a fierce and rough barley wine - but so flavourful. Pours a cloudy, dark red brown with a root beer head, which attenuates quickly. Oak bourbon, toffee, and coconut aroma. Silky, creamy mouthfeel and just a flood of magnificent flavor. Alternating chocolate, toffee, and coconut with overarching bourbon. Finishes with a little alcohol warmth, but it’s not unappealing. This is a pricy beer, but it is worth it to try RedCloud (129) - Rhode Island, USA - MAR 29, 2013
Pours a deep, mostly clear ruby red, that thins out to an almond brown, with a finger or two of lasting, khaki head. Lacing is soapy, and quite lasting. Nose is of rich caramel, lightly toasted coconut, and a faint note of sweet pipe tobacco. Taste starts with buttery toffee, and caramel, before opening up into butterscotch, Brazil-nut, and syrupy malts. Touch of bitter chocolate, and oak tannins, with lingering vanilla sweetness on the finish. The body is comparatively full to most barley-wines, as is the carbonation. Putting a bottle in my cellar for an updated review later this year! DesertDevil (699) - Arizona, USA - MAR 29, 2013
UPDATED: JUN 8, 2013 On tap at the Hungry Monk. A clear dark burgundy color with hardly any head. Huge boozy, bourbon aroma with dark cherries and oak. Beautiful smooth bourbon and heavy malt combine for a divine flavor. The oak is present in the background along sweet dark fruit and a hint of spicy clove and tobacco. Velvet smooth texture, and slight astringent tang but with sweet, short finish. Still one of my favorite barleywines. reggiedunlop (3718) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 25, 2013
Pours a very nice ruby color with a medium tan head. Aroma has candied fruits and vanilla...nice oak...not sweet. Flavor has wonderful candied fruit, great oak and vanilla...earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is oaky/fruity/earthy and bitter...warms beautifully.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2013 2012 bottle shared with Pixachii. Pours a dark copper with red highlights. Tiny bubbles. Small head. Recedes quickly into a little ring. Smells toasty. Spicy and sweet, like graham crackers. Caramel, honey, a little chocolate, booze, vanilla, booze, and booze. Tastes sweet and creamy with loads of vanilla notes. This tastes spicier to me than I remembered it. Very warming. Tasty stuff. halfonit (1356) - Fall River, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 23, 2013
On tap at Battleship. Pours a deep amber color. Aroma is full of oak, vanilla, some bourbon and malts. Full bodied palate. Flavor is smooth for 13% abv. There’s malts, bourbon, oak and a little booziness. Leaves an oaked bourbon finish. Impressive. mnmike (1086) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 23, 2013
Bottle pour. This one smells great - very goose island BCBS-like. Carbonation wasn’t perfect and the head bubbles were inconsistent. Toadvine (72) - Arizona, USA - MAR 22, 2013
2013 reserve from TW&B. Nice rich brown color with some tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is heavy vanilla, oak, booze, coconut, tobacco, and the taste is pretty similar. Good stuff. shroud0fdoom (150) - Maryland, USA - MAR 22, 2013
Look: Dark mahogany body, off white head. Smell: Big coconut, chocolate, doughy notes, wood, sweet toasted malts, spicy. Taste: Coconut, nice slight berry notes, toasted malt, chocolate, nice quality tobacco in the finish, slight heat, very nice. Feel: Medium body undertoned carbonation. Overall: This is a dangerous brew! The dry tobacco finish aches for another sip even at almost 13% ABV. All flavors are not muddled each one screams out nicely. This is close to DFH Palo Santo but not as hot. This is Recommended.
