COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

[Bottle / 2013 / Batch 003] Muddled, almost completely opaque dark-ish brown & rusty copper body, capped with a small, off-white & beige tinted film that transcends neatly to a thin collar. Aroma is quite complex, standard barrel aged barley wine notes of raisins, booze-soaked dates, bourbon lathered oak staves, mild vanilla, rustic caramel, sweet black cherries, burnt toffee, & prunes smothered in a sweet, lightly burnt, brown sugar glaze. Definitely lots going on, commanding presence. Taste is the same, with lots of bourbon & oak soaked notes of dark fruit; prunes, raisins, dates, & a touch of licorice. Hints of maple mid-palate with a barrel induced vanilla presence, warm caramel, a mildly tannic finish, & a wispy note of anise left on the tongue. More prunes, raisins, & bourbon covered dark fruits as the beer warms up with a more boisterous bourbon presence & a big, balancing, brown sugar sweetness throughout. Sticky, warm, thick. This is definitely a monstrous barrel aged barley wine & a damn fine one at that... but I still think it may be slightly overpraised. Ive definitely had more enjoyable -bal BWs.

Pours barely translucent chocolate with a thin pale buff head. Aroma offers chocolate, roast malt and caramel tones. Flavor echoes the aroma with stronger notes. Mouthfeel features firm body and peppy fizz. Sucaba one down.

(Tap sample @ CBC 2016 Green Session, Copenhagen) Pours hazy deep amber with a dark cream head. Aroma is sweet, fruity and barrel heavy overall, lots of layers of caramel, toffee, vanilla, toast, bourbon, dried fruits, figs, oak. Flavours follow the nose a lot, rich, almost fudgey toffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted notes, slight chocolate, bourbon, lots of vanilla from the oak, dried and candied figs, berries and dates, tobacco, new oak. A touch of booze and drying from the oak counteract the sweetness in the finish, but its still a rich, sweet beer with a full mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Very nice to sip slowly, if perhaps not the best choice at a festival.

[email protected] beer SF; RELEASE 2016 - 13.4% abv.: pours deep reddish brown, slightly clear with light brown tan head. Aroma: toasted toffee, caramel, hint of cocoa and milk chocolate, oak, hint of tobbaco, bourbon. Flavor: intense malt notes, which takes on caramel, toasted toffee, hint of cacao dark chocolate and coffee, oak, hint of vanilla and bourbon. Finish is slightly sticky, dry. Body is thick, texture soft, carbonation moderate. Alcohol is gentle noticeable. This (English style) barley wine is huge: technically perfect crafted, for my point of view a little bit too sweet (with aging it will get balance for sure), with (as I prefer) lower hop bitterness as many other exemplary American counterparts (Alesmith Old Numbskull or Three Floyds Behemoth for example). At the end it really knock me down.

Bottle, 2016 vintage, picked up at Smokes n Suds. Brown pour with a short lived beige head. Aroma is delightfully sweet; great barrel notes along with vanilla, caramel, and toffee. Sweet flavor overall, very complex. Vanilla, caramel, toffee, and coconut come together with the barrel treatment. Lots of layers of flavor one of the best barreled barley wines I can recall. Fantastic stuff!

Bottle tasting at DobryZbeer Strong Dark Cherry notes, with a sweet bite that balances out the high alcohol notes. Some vanilla and toffi taste. Very unique and full flavored Barley Wine.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2017 650ml bottle at home. Reddish brown colour, foamy beige head. Really nice nose with sweet malty dried fruits, toffee, coconut, candied apple, vanilla, bourbon blending in nicely. Taste is a bit off balance in booze and dry/bitterness (leather, hoppy), maybe English style but has great malty complexity and bourbon notes. Aftertaste lingers but not really long. High carbonation, good body, lacks an oily/thick mouthfeel.

Dark reddish brown pour from 22o bottle at home. A tiny ring of white head. Carmel, oak, candy, butterscotch and smooth. Doesnt have a bite at all for the high ABV. Delicious. One of the best BW Ive had
