UPDATED: AUG 20, 2012 Bottle. Pours a nice dark amber color with a tan head. Aroma is super complex filled with barrel notes, I get lots of coconut and oak, bourbon like notes, vanilla, dark fruits, tobacco, toasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is equally complex and again filled with coconut and wood, I get vanilla, dark fruits, brown sugar, tobacco, toasted malt, chocolate, dark cherry and vinous notes. The body is full with a creamy mouth feel. Overall an amazing Barley Wine, probably the best I have ever had. FW never sizes to amaze me! 77ships (10771) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JAN 21, 2013
Thx. to Benzai / Rene for this one. 65 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2013. Damn this was good, easily one of the best barley wines I have ever had the pleasure of tasting & the best one in American style. Pours a slick copper brown. Smells of delicious slick, slightly sticky bourbon blended with sweet caramel & toffee, creamy, sweet thick rich malts. Caramel, toffee, sugar, bourbon, vanilla, slick goodness, only a little touch of bitterness (herb) in the back coupled with light alcohol, ripe fruits. Creamy bourbon mouthfeel, vanilla. I am giving this 4.9 – every Firestone Walker beer I have so far, has been so good. srobi003 (58) - odenton, Maryland, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Aroma: massive oak, vanilla, bourbon .notes. also getting a dark fruit note. Appearance: reddish-brown, 1/2 finger off-white head. No lacing and a massive amount of alcohol legs. Taste: Wow!!! Sweet but not too sweet. Not a lot of bitterness. This is the smoothest beer I ever had. Overall: The best barleywine I ever had. The best beer I’ve had period. The only reason this is not a 5.0 score is wish it was in a 12 ounce bottle. This will creep up on you, definitely a sipper. timc100 (314) - Park Ridge, Illinois, USA - FEB 17, 2013

A: Deep, dark, dank murky ruby/mahogany with a beige barrel-aged head - big bubbles, spotty lacing, great retention
S: Incredible. Huge vanilla, coconut, caramel. Lots of wood, tobacco and leather earthy notes. So incredibly rich.
T: Huge, hits you in waves. Big caramel, dark fruit; oak, bourbon; vanilla coconut. As it warms the caramel increases and chocolate presents itself
P: Incredibly smooth, slightly chewy. Does not at all feel like a 12.5 beer - medium to full in body. Complements everything else
O: Really incredible DocJitsu (2024) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Pours a cloudy, dark red brown with a root beer head, which attenuates quickly. Oak bourbon, toffee, and coconut aroma. Silky, creamy mouthfeel and just a flood of magnificent flavor. Alternating chocolate, toffee, and coconut with overarching bourbon. Finishes with a little alcohol warmth, but it’s not unappealing. This is a pricy beer, but it is worth it to try

Holy Shitballs! That is one well crafted beer. I’d be broke if it was available in Michigan. poisoneddwarf (2620) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - FEB 14, 2014
Boxed bomber. Aroma is packed with toasted coconut first, then almonds, wet river rock, caramel, earth. Pours hazy amber with a collapsing beige head. Taste is sweet and savory, like what cashew brittle might taste like in heaven, if I can say that without sounding like a pretentious asshole. No? I can’t? I don’t really care. This is so good. Licorice pops out after it warms a bit. If this represents the new guard in the modern definition of barleywine (and I think it does), I’m all for it. Flat out, knock you on your ass delicious, just like all the FW barrel-aged components of the Anniversary blends. Pretentious or not, everything comes together near perfectly here. If this had a better head formation, this would be complete perfection. This is what I look for in a five star beer. fitwitchik (433) - Ohio, USA - MAR 29, 2014
2012 bottle poured from a bomber into a Firestone Walker snifter a mahogany brown with a tan head that stayed around a bit longer than other "serious" English barley wines.
Aroma is booze followed by a sweet vanilla molasses.
Flavor is straight up sugar adoration. A blend of coconut, dark fruit, booze, chocolate. WOWza.
The balance of with higher ABV is bull eyes perfect. DAMN!!
Again another top 5 barley wine bucket list. So glad to have this beverage & another 2012 laying down like a good soldier.
