COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big boozy bourbon and American oak aromas combined with soft chocolate malty undertones. Complex malt flavors framed in oak, with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, coconut and just a touch of dark cherry. This is definitely a sipping beer, best served in a brandy snifter. This ale pairs well with dark chocolate and sturdy cheeses.

Note: Sucaba is the beer formerly known as Abacus until the Winter 2012 release.

An awesome surprise. 2012 vintage. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a thinner khaki head. Nose involves huge dark fruit notes, notably plum, with lots of vanilla and oak toast, some faint pine and herbal hops, molasses, raisin, and date bread. Very sweet flavor, quite bitter still also. Rich body, warm, heavier, syrupy, oily, viscous, soft carb, tingly, with a long warm whiskey finish. Absolutely world class brew, great combo of bourbon barrel and barleywine. This could easily sit for 2 or 3 more years and still be great. Fantastic experience.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.

Vintage 2013 Served in a snifter A - Pours a dark brown/mahogany color with red highlights. 1 finger of off-white head forms a thin collection of wispy patterned bubbles below a solid collar. S - Sweet whiskey, vanilla, buttery cotton candy, toasted coconut, caramel and toffee, sugar coated nuts roasted, amaretto, scorched oak wood and cherries, strawberry and rhubarb preserve. T - A swirl of roasted wood, sweet vanilla, dense toffee, sticky caramel, toasted fruit bread, leather, spicy hops, whiskey swirls around notes of chocolate cherry cordial, amaretto, and rum. The whiskey components grow stronger as it warms, making the finish drier and drier. Some spiciness shows up toward the warming finish. M - Starts out firm and full but turns medium and softens out, low and fine carbonation. One of the best aromas Ive ever smelled from a beer. Complexity is an over-used word but this is complex. The transitions of aroma, taste, and feel over the course of the bottle are incredible. Full barrel flavors the meld beautifully. Dont know how this could get any better with age. Pours strong. Light head that fades fast. Smells like butterscotch and toasted molasses. Tastes show more oak than expected. Residual sweetness and heavy malt profile take away all bitterness. Tasted somewhat like banana bread. Surprised me to not be at all hoppy as a Barleywine.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2014 From notes, consumed on 4/9/13. Bottle (2013) poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours dark brown with half a finger of off-white head receding into a ring around the glass. Aromas of dark fruit, coconut, booze, bourbon, vanilla. Tasting notes of dark fruit, oak, vanilla, coconut, bourbon. Warm boozy finish. Medium body with a semi-dry finish.

Had a bottle of 2014 on 3/15/14 and it was pretty much as I remember in my 2013 notes. ABV was upped from 12.5% for 2013 to 13.5% for 2014.

Bottle (2013) poured into a Belgian snifter, consumed on 3/16/14 so around 14 months old I believe. Pours dark brown with just over a finger of off-white head receding into a ring around the glass. More dark fruit on the aroma, faded notes of bourbon, coconut, and vanilla. Tasting notes of dark fruit, dark chocolate, light bourbon, light coconut, light vanilla. Still very enjoyable with a year on it but I prefer this one fresh with the bolder barrel character.

Bomber poured into FW reserve glass. 2015 vintage. Beautiful maroon body with a nice off white head that dissipates. Smells of bourbon, malt, sugar and leathery tobacco. Tastes of milky coconut, thick leather polished off with some bourbon. Some heat on the tongue most likely because its a young beer. Also notes of chocolate left afterward. God, this might be the best beer Ive ever had.

A beautiful deep blood red color with a small soapy beige head. Exquisite aroma. Powerful, full of character and complexity, and so cohesive. Jam, dark fruit, dark brown sugar, dark chocolate, along with super well integrated barrel character. Flavor follows but is not as distinctly. Lighter full body. Warm alcohol.

Finally getting around to this, seems fitting. Bottle, deep brown beer skiff of almond colored foam, decent lace. Aroma raisin, vanilla, sweet cherries, cookies, milk chocolate, almonds, licorice. Taste is vanilla cream, yeah, ice cream, and bourbon, cookies, anise, oak, almonds, pretty sweet, but big vanilla, balanced by that almond and dark fruit and a hint of roastyness, Palate is rich and thick, carb subdued. This is not my style, but wow, this really is amazing! Pairing this with a cured goat cheese...just stop it! Really, how can I raise my rating?! But I must! Wow!

Pretty damn nice. Similar to Bourbon County Barleywine. Nice mellow flavors, caramel, toasted coconut, milk chocolate... Good shit. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle brought to Prague by Benh and shared with Wolfcarnival. Cheers pals. beer of the night in my opinion and it was keeping some pretty outrageous company. It was so complex and rich. A real heavywight beer. The sheer balance of wood, bourbon, caramel and booze was heavenly. It spells like Shakespeare if Shakespeare was a damn cowboy.
