Draft at the Santa Monica taproom. Dark chestnut color with a foamy tan head. Sweet caramel aroma. Nice depth of flavor for a brown ale that starts sweet and finishes with some lingering bitterness. Tasty. RedSox2004 (1962) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - SEP 10, 2016
On tap in Venice. Reddish brown with a one-finger off-white head and ok lace. Aromas of nutty malts with some earth and floral hops. Taste follows, as flavors of nutty malts with earthy yeast are offset by a hint of floral hops. Medium body, moderate carbonation, thin mouthfeel and a lingering toffee sweetness in the finish. I received this as a surprise from my parents on a trip back from Paso in a growler. While being a very fresh offering I found it to weak and thin for a brown. The appearance is a dark tarnished penny color with a thin fizzy head that does quick. The aromas are a little toasty, roasty and earthy. On the taste there are notes of light brown sugar, maybe a dusting of cocoa flavor but mainly a reliance of caramel malts. Almost forgettable but pleasing enough. slowrunner77 (12594) - Reno, Nevada, USA - AUG 10, 2016
Nice brown ale - roasted malt and coffee first on the nose, with some light bready notes and a touch of bitter hops in there, and the flavor as well. Smooth if light. Marheb (6050) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 8, 2016
(En fût à Firestone Walker Venice): Des céréales grillées et un fond de sucre brun. La texture mince et aérienne s’évapore rapidement, laissant un goût de biscuit mélasse sur la langue.
