Nice big floral aroma, slight breadiness noticed on the nose. Nice clear golden appearance with a decent head. Flavor is full of flowery hops. A resin flavor is also present. Malt contains some mild caramel notes. Moderate fruity esters are apparent. Mouthfeel and carbonation is moderate. Overall an enjoyable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Yet another delicious California IPA, loads of grapefruit and pine on top of a firm caramel-n-biscuit malt base. Slips in some orange marmalade and peach alongside the opening hop salvo, while the middle grows dry and grainy with a rising bitterness. Finishes hoppy as hell with hints of yeast and pepper. Pours a beautiful orange-gold with a massive white head and generous lacing. Grapefruit and biscuit on the nose. Perfect slick, oily IPA texture with just enough sparkle. Damn good pint.

From Apr 2008 Another brew purchased at South Bay D&L. Thanks Joey! This pours a clear gold with a 2 finger head of foam and plenty of lacing. Good head retention. The smell is big notes of grapefruit and not much more but I like it. The taste is very hoppy with a big bold grapefruit profile but I can taste a bit of malt in the background and it *does* take some of the edge off the bitterness. Nice medium body and carbonation, it finishes with a citric bitterness that lasts through the aftertaste. It's quite easy drinking, though I have to watch it because it isn't exactly a lightweight when it comes to the abv. This is a very nice IPA!

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2017 Draft many times but for some reason never rated. Clear deep gold pour with a slim foamy ring. Complex mix of hops balanced with enough malts to bring fullness. Bittersweet orange peels. Recalled liking this better in the past. Did the formula change? The Double Jack is many times better.

Review: 355ml Bottle of Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA: ABV: 7.5% vol A popular beer that has won many awards and several honours since 2008. Do like the design of the logo and bottle. Simple but stands out. On pour got a nice big frothy white head, and a lovely clear golden orange beer appeared. Is a nice looking beer for sure, lovely looking colour. Light carbonation. On nose got a pleasant fruity aroma, was really lovely to smell. Got citrus and grapefruit. On the taste side of things, I found it way too hoppy. Now I know this beer is an IPA and popular with the beer geeks, but fuck me I found it very difficult to drink tbh. Was tasty, did get to savour a bit of it and did get some tasty sweet malts, but those hops, were way too aggressive and bitter for me, yuck! Also got too much of the citrus flavours, not a nice taste, a bit sour. Was a strong beer though, did feel the alcohol later! Disappointing considering all the hype. Maybe if I grew a big fuck off beard it might taste better?
