This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

650ml bottle shared with brother. Aroma: light bacon, big milk chocolate, really subtle soapy / minty aroma. App: burgundy /brownish, small mocha head with yellow tint leaving little lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, a tad watery, smooth light sweet and bacon finish. Overall: lacks in body a bit surprisingly because of this high abv. Bourbon is not present enough for me.

On nitro. Pours black with brown head. A faint chocolate, coffee and roasted malt aroma. A creamy body of milk chocolate, light coffee, and some sweet and roasted malts. A lingering chocolate aftertaste.

2014 vintage, aged two years. Pours a deep brown, with ample tan head. Aroma is a bit musty, with hints of chocolate and wood. Taste is smooth and rich, notes of chocolate and coffee, with a bit of vanilla. Very good blend and complexity. Thumbs way up on this one....

Thanks to Boisebeerguy!!!! Nice bottle with a lot of information, black beer with short beige head, smell is bourbon and for me red wine, taste coffee, dark chocolate and bourbon, good balance between sweet and bitter, full body, oily, flat carbonation, finish is bourbon, very good, (I have 0.65l bottle version 2015)

Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, leather, roasted malts. Taste of bourbon, chocolate, earthy coffee, butterscotch, short lasting finish. Quite light mouthfeel, but very easy drinking beer. Straight forward, balanced, well made.

Taps barely translucent caramel with a decent buff head. Aroma presents a sharp alcohol note like cognac or some other strong liquor, followed by roast malt, woody and nutty notes. Flavor continues the sharp alcohol but ups the malt, woody and nutty tones while adding a bit of chocolate. Mouthfeel delivers fair body but strong, sassy fizz. Get velvety.

A bottle on Black Christmas 2016 at 12 Kings. Vintage 2016. Pours a very dark reddish brown with no head. Aroma is bourbon, roasted seeds, chocolate. Taste is pretty the same with moderate sweetness. Very smooth. Good stuff.

On tap at Pinocchios. My fifth bourbon beer, so whatever. Bourbon on the nose and tongue. Not overpowering, oatmeal discernible under it all. Thick and chewy. Tasty.
