COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels and it just won the 2010 and 2011 Gold medal at the GABF for barrel aged beers!!! This beer goes into the barrels as a roasty dark chocolate, coffee accented mild mannered stout and comes out transformed as a milk chocolate, smooth dark cherry, vanilla and coconut infused masterpiece. We are incredibly proud of this beer and it seems as though it was always meant to be a barrel aged brew. 100% Oak Barrel Aged

Silky dark pour with 1 1/2 finger head. Aroma is oak bourbon and vanilla with some smoke. Taste is caramelized oats, toasted coconut, bourbon, vanilla, coffee and cocoa. Overpriced however ($11 for a 12 oz).

Opaque, no lace. Medium body, moderately flavored, good heat, low carbonation, average length. Almost tart, dry, little bitterness. Modest flavor, fresh grapes, dried fruit, liqueur. Good but not great. Very well balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2017 12oz. bottle. Near black pour with a tall, creamy mocha head. Aroma is loaded with deep, but mellow roast, dark chocolate, vanilla laden bourbon barrel, toasted oak, caramel, toasted coconut, pale toffee and whipped hot chocolate. Flavor is vanilla heavy oaked hot cocoa (if that were such a wonderful thing), the dark sweetness of cherries simmered in red wine, dark caramel, nutty toffee, macaroon. Medium to heavy body, creamy feel, slight stickiness, light to medium carbonation. Really, really good, it's so close to a higher score from me, it's just missing something in the finish, both in flavor and feel. Still, fantastic.

pictoman (1283) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 8, 2018
Poured from 650mL bottle (vintage: 2016). Black with tan head. Oak, bourbon, dark chocolate upfront, but quickly dissipates into a mild lactose finish. Starts strong, but finishes light. As good as the barrel aging is, it might actually detract due to the disparate typing of strong bourbon chocolate and light sweet lactose (ie: perhaps it's a combination that doesn't quite fit). Not quite up to par with their other barrel aged vintages.

Flaska från SB drucken med ölföreningen. Smak och doft av ek, choklad, vanilj, mörka körsbär, björnbär, bourbon, Läkerol och kaffe. Stor kropp och sötma, god balans, fin beska. Gott!

Bottle, 2017 vintage. Rich milk chocolate aroma with notes of roasted malt, milk sugar, vanilla, nutty, bourbon and oak. Pours deep brown with a thin mocha brown head that has little retention and decent lacing. Starts with rich milk chocolate, roasted malt and milk sugar flavors with a full body and silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with vanilla, bourbon, oak and nutty flavors. Decadent and rich. Absolutely wonderful.

2016 bomber shared at Lingua tasting. Pours deep brown with highlights and low light tan head. Nutty aroma, coconut, plenty of bourbon remaining, barrel oak, oats. Mellow and well-integrated barrel flavours, choc, oat, nice booze balance at the end. A bit of fizz and a medium body, rolls off the palate easily, smooths out well. Great timing, sits together really well with a year on it.

2016 vintage, inky black with a tan head that quickly dissipates. A bit boozy sharp but nutty bourbon malty chocolate. Spritzy seltzer like body that is lighter than I expected. Really nice stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2017 Bottle, series 1. Dark brown, clear but dark. Tan bubbles. Wood nose, chocolate, sweet notes, dark malts. Bready notes. Dry malty flavor, dark chocolate, low coconut flavor. Sweetness is there but restrained. Woody finish. Nice.
