On tap at the 2005 Great Taste of the Midwest: Pours a deep amber brown with a thin, wispy light tan head. Very nice, complex, and authentic Belgian malty and yeasty aroma. Body starts sweet, caramely and dark sugary with good yeasty balance. A very authentic and complex Chimay clone beer. badgerben (5387) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - OCT 12, 2009
Dark brown color with a small head. Aroma of strong malt sweetness and prunes. After warming up past freezing temp... tastes of strong, sweet, nearly syrupy malt. Prune, raisins, dates and toffee all there. Some graininess on the end. Not too bad at all. Mrthirstyneck (341) - Minnesota, USA - MAY 7, 2007
while not my favorite style, this one packed a punch. Tasted at arborfest MN 2007. heavy boozy afterburn which was kinda nice. Also, very fruity and spicy tons of flavor for a dubbel. fruity and sweet up front through the middle area, and long and boozy on the backside. Fitger’s came through with this beer. Rotting fruit aromas and flavors. Very dark brown, with a thick and heavy body. Not as malty as the real thing. I had no idea the abv was so high when I was drinking it. footbalm (1219) - Western Minneapolis Suburbs, Minnesota, USA - OCT 10, 2005
This was a luscious tasty brew with more flavor than most doubles.Lots of fruits and exotic spices along with some toffee.

Growler acquired in trade with tytoanderso (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy brownish color wtih a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, chocolate, yeast, some roastiness, and some spices. Tastes of dark fruitiness, caramel, and some brown sugary sweetness. Light alcohol in the finish but overall well hidden. robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 2, 2005
Dark Brown Coloring with White Ring. Barley, Caramel, Prunes - Sweet Aroma. Initially Sweet, Raisin, Bread Dough Notes...Heavy Dry Hop Cascade. Almost a Dark Coffee Roast Lingering on the Tongue at the End. Alcohol is There but Only Promises to Hit You Hard When you’re Not Looking. kosko20 (352) - Bemidji, Minnesota, USA - OCT 30, 2009
Growler thanks to Levi (MatSciGuy). Pour is murky brown, with minimal head and no lacing. Aroma is berries, dark fruits, bready and caramel malts. Flavor is sweet and palate is a little thin and low carbonated. Not bad, easy to drink. Atom (2618) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 1, 2010
On tap at brewery pours brown with no head and slight lacing. Aroma of butterscotch, malts, toffee, and caramel. Taste similar to aroma with bready grains and slight chocolate a little bitter on the finish. Very nice. auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - AUG 4, 2005
Rich ruby raisin pour, murky, with a thin line of light tan head. Light rum raisin aroma. Flavor is fairly one-dimenionsal, with strong bouts of firey alcohol, rum, raisins and a touch of mellow wheat. Sugars on the back end, with a hint of caramel. Palate is oily and coating. Average for the style.
