Growler thanks to StFun! Ruddy brown pour, minimal amount of spotty lacing and an aroma of coppery malt and dry hops. Flavor is earthy leaves, plenty of chestnuts and caramel and finished a little dry. Outstanding for an amber!
Draft. Poured clear reddish copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate toasted rye malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate dark sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met. Draft. Pours a darker amber with a beige head of foam. The aroma is buckwheaty and grainy with some fun bready notes. Taste is earthy and an intereating bitterness throughout. Pretty good. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - OCT 26, 2013
Draft on tap at the brewery (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a nice orange brownish hue, gentle copper glow with a decent haziness in the body. Small frothy brighter white head atop dies to a loose ring, laces small. Aromas are gentle bready malts, touches of citrusy and floral hops are subtle. Fresh cut oats, some gentle biscuit and florals, some grass. Not bad, fairly fresh, not sweet. Initial is a bit more well rounded throwing some juicy citrus elements up front and throughout. Some bready malts, subtle biscuit, mellow toast. Grass and florals, some decent hop presence certainly shows up and keeps up. A bit rind driven, some gentle biscuity and carmelized malt feels. But the hops keep up, keep it in check. Backend is a bit dry, floral, mellow to decent citrus presence presses on. Mellow bread, oat is subtle but offers a more grainy, dry feel. Some touches of floral elements, mellow grass. Finish is a bit more hop centric. This is what I’d call a Red that didn’t want that sweet sticky caramel so they hopped it quite liberally and used oats to soften the blow. Pretty solid stuff and my favorite of the new beers today. Pine/grapefruit hop aroma.
Caramel, leafy, piney flavor.
An amber IPA, maybe?
Not bad, but the hoppiness, while tasty, seems a bit one-sided.
