When Fall rolls around, so does Jack. Provided he stays away from marauding trick-or-treaters, this bright orange gourd-like squash from the genus curcubita (Thanks Wikipedia!) finds his way into the mash of this Flat12 seasonal pale ale. A special blend of Indian(a) spices and pumpkin shine through just enough to complement this slightly sweet and malty tribute to the season of hayrides and bonfires. Flat out fantastic.

Thanks, Chris! Served in a mug. Pours a clear light golden. Huge head. So much so that we thought it might have been infected, but alas, it’s just overcarbonated. Nose is a spice bomb with lots of cinnamon and backing pumpkin spice. Flavor is similar to apple jacks and way overspiced. Not a fan at all.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy gold with medium white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong spice and pumpkin. Thin body, cinnamon, nutmeg, light finish, ok.

Bottle:   Lighter colored.   Spicy and tart, a little bubbley, like champagne.   Cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice from start to finish.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A little airy at times but not too bad.   Has a touch of apple cider like sweetness, or fruitiness perhaps.   Interesting beer to say the least, and a bit different from the traditional examples.

Pour on tap at the brewery, on nitro, slightly hazy yellow with white head, aroma brought notes of pumpkin, biscuit, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Taste is huge spice, lots of cinnamon and nutmeg, clove, some slight hints of yeast, pumpkin, but dominated by spice.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2014 Aroma: A can of nutmeg being shoved into your nose by the zombie looking fellow on the front of the label. Nutmeg. More nutmeg. Appearance: Cloudy copper body, hugely over carbonated leading to a mess of sticky lacing all over the glass. Flavor: See "Aroma." Palate: Full body, sticky texture, fizzy carbonation, long finish to prolong the pain. Overall: Amateurish trash.

Rated on 10-28-2014 (Bottle) This beer pours a huge foamy head that mostly diminishes, hazy golden body, fast rising, very little carbonation, and a good amount of lacing adorns my glass. The aroma is pumpkin, sweet and malt. The flavor is lightly bitter, sweet, pumpkin, and spice. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This beer has a good dose of pumpkin. A bit too much for my liking and I like pumpkin. It also has a light lingering pumpkin aftertaste.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of almost all foam bright white colored bubbles that were and left behind a very softly carbonated transparent yellow orange colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was malty and pumpkin. The mild citrus mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish herbal aftertaste. The ok flavor contained notes of pumpkin mild hops fruity and malt. An OK brew just nothing special.

Pours a gold amber, loads of carbonation and a thin cream head. Spiced pumpkin aroma. Strong clove flavor with a little pumpkin, into cinnamon /nutmeg. Sticky mouthfeel.

Couple of pints on tap. Clear orange with a film of bubbles. Aroma of squash, caramel and some earthy spices. Tastes of the same with some resin, light pepper and wheat toast. Light-medium body is balanced and has smooth, medium carbonation. Like the subtlety of the spices that lets the pumpkin come through.

Floback (550) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - OCT 3, 2014
12-ounce bottle from Crown Liquors. Pours a surprisingly light-colored dark lager body with a thumbnail of frothy head that has good retention. Nice aroma of spices, especially nutmeg. Plenty more of the spice rack in the flavor: clove, subtle cinnamon, a bitter finish. Medium body and soft/medium carbonation. Certainly not my favorite representative of the style, but a decent brew.
