Draft. Peat smoke and caramel malt malt aroma. Medium brown with minimal head. Light smoky barley malt flavor. Light but that’s the point. Very nice sessionable beer.. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 8, 2012
Draft on tap at the brewery tasting room (Indianapolis, IN). A small session Scottish Ale? I’m game. Pours a richly deep brownish copper hue, mellow haze and some glowing deeper orange amber edges and bottom show up. Frothy offwhite head dies to a ring, laces small. Aromas are gentle toffee and toast, mellow sweet caramel, touches of biscuits, gentle kiss of cocoa. Earthy malts, touch of dry hops, with some gentle biscuits coming forward, sweeter toffee and carmelization. Initial is lighter bodied, a touch of girth gives that carmleization, touch of toffee, firm biscuity and toasty element. Bready malts, some gentle kisses of peaty toast, some gentle fruit, and that darker sticky malt element that is light and enjoyable in this capacity. Touch of red fruit, licorice, and caramel with just a kiss of cocoa. Middle and backend gets a touch more dry, touch of earthy hops, mellow toast, and some crisp cereal grains, touch of dark fruit raisin. Lingering touch of toast in the finish, carmelization, gentle dark fruit, and some nice flavors overall. Pretty impressed at 3.4 ABV. Solid darker sessioner. 574deadzone (1419) - North Central, Indiana, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Sample at Flat 12. At first I thought it was thin and very light, but then I saw the 3.4% ABV and it clicked for me. It’s got a lot of those dark peated malt flavors, but in a small package, which could make for a flavorful session ale for sure. Pretty good, and appropriate for this ridiculous heat in Indy.
