bottle - This brew smells mainly of resinous hops. It tastes of resinous and herbal hops and big, syrupy malt. It’s the latter that’s the problem. The syrupy blend of malts and resinous hops combine to make something that tastes far too much like cough syrup. I love half cycle IPA, but while still decently drinkable, it’s "pissed off viking cousin" is flawed, IMO.

12 oz. bottle supplied by StFun -- many thanks! Opened at the beginning of a mild snow spray, 4:11 pm in the afternoon.
To long-stemmed white wine glass, it pours a skin-tinted medium carrot orange with which a whitish-ringed head 1 finger in length stood.

Aromas of celery salt, damp newspaper, cotton, burnt plastic, pine needles, and sourdough starter.
Tastes much the same with the addition of sawdust, melted candle wax, LME, acidulated malt, and chopped chives. Seawater, barred soap, bay leaves, basil, and some dried bitter orange peel experienced by swallow.
This is a deafeningly herbal DIPA, and not what I found all too satisfying to drink. A little orange peel zest doesn’t save it, either.
I guess if you’re down with bitter, herbal-forward DIPAs, you should enjoy this. But not me.
Aroma of juniper, citrus, malt, taste is more juniper berries, citrus, maltiness, some alcohol. I like gin, so this was drinkable for me! Patrickctenchi (6812) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - FEB 1, 2015
Clear, amber-copper with a thin, off-white head.
Orange, honey-cough syrup aroma.
Taste is semi-sweet, spicy orange malt, juniper flavour.
Slight alcohol bittering, but rather well masked for the strength...

Orange pour from draft at flat 12. White head. Crazy fruity and hoppy. Tastes "fresh". Really good. Pine and bitter too

Cloudy dark brown with 1 finger dense white head. Smells like aged bigfoot, lots of toffee, a bit of hops. Taste is similar, big and malty, some toffee notes with a slightly bitter finish. Finish is a bit hollow. Strange beer, and not what I was expecting, but not bad at all. changeup45 (1731) - Lake Mary, Florida, USA - MAR 6, 2014
Bottle from StFun. Thanks! A toasted caramel malt, brown sugar, and resinous hop mix comprise of the scent. It looks murky brown with a small khaki head on top. Sweet and sticky caramel malt upfront before drying out some in the finish. Low-moderate bitterness accompanied by mostly resinous hop flavors. A fairly straightforward resin-caramel combo here with a syrupy and fairly heavy body. Just okay. want1DIPA (227) - - MAR 5, 2014
Bottle pour. Amazing juniper tones! I love the mild, dank, carmel malts that overide this hop bomb! What a delight! Block (3222) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - FEB 15, 2014
I’m glad to see a nice local IPA. This beer has a nice hop profile which comes out in the aroma first and follows through to the flavor. The IBU’s mask the 9% alcohol really well. b3shine (9281) - Indiana, USA - FEB 11, 2014
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent malty orange with foamy off-white head. Smells solid; not as hoppy as I’d hoped it would though. It has a medium-bodied pale malt backbone. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Too much malt and not enough hops.
