On draft at the source. The beer is chestnut brown with a thin, light beige collar. The aroma offers some sweet, fruity notes atop a light malt bill. The flavor is decent, albeit a bit to sweet. A bit more bread and malt character would serve this beer well. Decent beer, and easy enough to get through a pint, but this could stand a few improvements. tap at brewpub. pours dark amber witha small kacki colored head. aroema of toasted almonds, chocolate and some faint roast in there-like a nutty porter. big peanut, lightly chocolate like the old school ice cream that comes in the bricks. pretty dry and velvety palate. long nutty finish with a touch of roasted marshmellow. a very tasty and unique brown ale. On tap at the brewpub. Brown in color with a white head that does not last long. Mild carbonation. Has a dark roasted chocolate scent and a thick mouth feel. Surprising flavor of tropical fruit in a heavy syrup. possibly pears. Finishes rather hoppy. Strange and delicious for a style I generally don’t care for... jcnielsen (3416) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - APR 6, 2013
Sampled at Flat Branch. Pours a brown color with white head. Nutty, malty, roasty flavors. Decent brown. Silphium (3224) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - SEP 8, 2004
On tap at Flat Branch. This was my favorite beer at the brewery. Deep red-brown body with nary a head. Flavor was quite interesting with caramel, toast, dark fruit, nuts, and red grapes. A tasty, quaffable brown ale.

Draft sampler, 4 Aug. 07. Almost Porterish in color, though holding it to the light shows its brown edges. But, in fact, it actually tastes like what a lot of big brewers try to pass off as porters. A bit of toffee flavor, sticky with some smoky sweetness, and just a note of fruitiness. Could actually be my favorite beer here, just because it pushes the edge of its intended style. Very brown, with a ruby tint. Mild chocolat and roast aromas. Dry, chalky on the palate, with some chocolate, and maybe some spices, like cinnamon. Also a molasses component? A little on the thin side. harlequinn (2744) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - AUG 10, 2006
Rich and chewy, a really decent nutty brown ale. Nuts and toffee are predominant, with just a hint of hoppiness in the aftertaste. Has also a bit of a graham cracker crust kind of maltiness. Enjoyable! gregwilsonstl (2707) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 5, 2014
Brown color. Somewhat sweet. Nutty like pecan. Another refreshing brew from flat branch. sneagrams3 (2337) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - SEP 9, 2008
Tasted 9/7/08. Draft from the brewpub. Filtered with a dark amber hue. Good malt roast with a smooth finish. Fudgy and nutty. Went great with the meatloaf I had for dinner!
