Draft. Vanilla, light bourbon, and chocolate malt aroma. Brown with small head. Sweet vanilla, chocolate malt and very mildly bitter herb/wood ash flavor. Very nice. Travlr (26943) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAY 18, 2015
Draft at the source. Aroma of bourbon and vanilla. Taste is sweet, boozy, roasty. This might have been the BA version, I’m not sure. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAY 17, 2014
Draft on tap at the brewery (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a nice rich darker blackish brown hue, opaque with nice coverage, faint ruby glow on the edges. Frothy tannish head atop stays as a firm lalyer, sticks around and laces very well. Aromas are nice smooth vanilla bean, touches of oak, gentle spirit meets touches of roast, mellow earthy hop, touch of bitterness with more rich vanilla bean, faint trailing cocoa. Initial is medium bodied, nice cool smooth vanilla element seems the driving factor. Not heavy in body, fairly light, smooth and creamy with some gentle yet growing roast, touches of toastiness, gentle caramel and faint coffee. Some more smooth sweet vanilla leaves this creamy and a bit "whipped" on the palate. Touches of bitterness, gentle roast on the backend make this more dry. The barrel is well integrated as the vanilla seems to drive firmly up front. The backend and finish remind you of the impressive Porter base used here, a touch of tannic oak and decent bitterness. A bit creamy and sweet up front. Really goes through the motions well. Really nice treatment beer. The quality of the base is what really helps here though and I’ve always been a huge van of Pogue’s Run since this place opened. b3shine (9338) - Indiana, USA - APR 14, 2014
Nitro draft to taster. Looks solid: settles into a fairly transparent dark copper with creamy light beige head. Smells solid too; dark malt, chocolate, and vanilla. Tastes like it smells, but less balanced. Average on the palate; definitely on the thinner side. Decent, but smells better than it tastes. tastybeer (1853) - Indiana, USA - APR 12, 2014
Nitro. Black pour, tan head. Good retention/lace. Aroma of vanilla, espresso, roast, dark chocolate. Taste is sweet, vanilla, espresso, chocolate, roast. Palate is soft, creamy, refreshing finish. Good.

Draft sample @ brewery. Dark brown with a moderate tan head. Roasty coffee, chocolate, bourbon, oak, and vanilla aroma. Sweet boozy bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, oak, and lightly acidic flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. drfabulous (8995) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - MAR 22, 2014
Draught at Flat 12. Brownish color pour. Big vanilla taste. In fact, it was mostly vanilla. Aroma. Taste. Finish. Patrickctenchi (6832) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - MAR 10, 2014
Pours deep, rubied brown with a short, light tan head.
Vanilla, chocolate cream aroma.
Taste is mildly bitter coffee/chocolate/vanilla...slightly lactic.
Just a touch of bourbon prescence....
Very nice. iugrad93 (265) - Indiana, USA - JUL 5, 2012
wow! dark pour with tan head. aromas of vanilla, coffee, chocolate, and hint of bourbon. taste is sweet and the vanilla really complements the roastiness of the beer. not too much bourbon for me. Very smooth and better as it warms. Overall, this is a really good beer. I like the standard Van Pogue, but the vanilla and bourbon really make this special.TheRussB (20) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - JUN 7, 2012

sample at Bloomington brewfest. had 20+ beers that night and only a few stood out (interpret as I remembered them). this was one of them. the vanilla definitely stood out with notes of bourbon. Full bodied beer with fairly flat carbonation but great vanilla flavor, as advertised. Kind of sweet but being a beer fest, I didn’t mind the sticky sweetness. Overall, a good beer that is deserving of a try. Unfortunately, this is a specialty and not sure if it well be available for long.
6/7/12- Just tapped today draft into a 32oz growler. Pours an almost opaque black with ruby highlights and a 1f light khaki head. Strong aroma of vanilla and roast coffee. Starts middling, smooth, and creamy before vanilla and coffee dominate the palate. Finishes with touches of some nice barrel warmth. This is a fantastically smooth porter and if you can get it at the brewery.
