The german wheat beers are travelling north. This fairly new wheat sets itself apart from the typical bavarian by its unique taste and the typical flensburger bottle.

Swing top bottle. Pours hazy gold with a large foamy head. Aroma is primarily clove, with a bit of wheat and citrus too. Flavor is over-ripe bananas, wheat, dust. Mouthfeel is well carbonated.

Clearish yellow orange. Big head of large bubbles that diminishes quickly and leaves behind stripes of lace. Nose is heavy on banana, slightly bready, fairly simple and straight forward. Once tasted, a mild clove note becomes apparent but little more is revealed. Palate has the typical wheat malt thickness but lacking in the carbonation that makes the mouthfeels of the best hefes so nice. Fairly average for the style, a well made beer but not vibrant enough to really be great.

Strong aroma of banana and nuts, almost like banana bread. Pours out of the flip top with a nice two fingure head. Pale cloudy amber with some yeast chunkyness. Very smooth, medium bodied Hefe, lacks the real german yeast flavor one would expect, but it doesnt hurt the beer, note of bubblegum flavor, yes flavor, very interesting. Finish leaves you wanting more. Overall I think this beer is pretty darn good, bottle is great for homebrew.

Hmmm, kind of an interesting weizen. Got this bottle at Surdyks in Minneapolis a few weeks ago. Poured with a big, foamy, light tan head and no lace. Color is a hazy (once the complete contents are poured if the bottle hasnt been aggitated before pouring) medium amber. Aroma is sort of typical Bavarian weizen: bananas and wheat with pungency and minerals. Flavors about the same. Slightly tart, little sweetness, a little bitter. Decent body, typical weizen carbonation. Not bad. Not great. Not labeled as a "hefe" but did seem to have some yeast trub. Would have again, could be session.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2010 Not much to say about this. Like a not very good beer that isnt too bad to finish. I see that Im rating way under on all my Flensburger beers. I have to wonder why everyone loves these and why I hate them.

Bottle: Hazy orange pour with an off white film of head. Sweet sugary aroma of vanilla, caramel- no spiciness or quality yeast character. Light and vacant body- sweet astringent flavor- some artificial sweetener character that coats the palate. Hard to describe, just offensive and not representative of the style at all.

Pours golden to orange with short lived white head. Smell is estery and yeasty with stale, semi-rotten bananas. Taste is a bit sweet for a hefeweizen. Bottle is fairly fresh, but it doesnt really taste it. Yeast flavor is there with banana, and very subtle spice from the yeast if at all. Didnt enjoy this and there are many, much better hefs out there, I think.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2009 33.5cl swing top bottle. Medium haze, medium golden yellow color. Frothy white head. Big aromas of sweet ripened bananas. Some pineapple and spice. Flavor is of sweet wheat malt. Creamy texture. Lots of fruitiness, nice bready yeast flavor. Some distant banana bread. Very tasty.
My 150th weizenvlker rating.
