The german wheat beers are travelling north. This fairly new wheat sets itself apart from the typical bavarian by its unique taste and the typical flensburger bottle.

Panzerfaust (837) - Hanga Roa, Easter Island, CHILE - MAY 8, 2009
Pours a hazy dark yellow colour with a big, cotton-like white head. It lasts for some minutes and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma has lots of banana, as expected but its not as strong as some other Hefes I had (like Franziskaner and Paulaner) and some wheat is also noticeable. Flavor is rather light, refreshing with lots of wheat and grains. Tends to the sweet side without being cloying and maintaining a refreshing profile. Good light to medium body, medium carbonation. Simple, crisp and refreshing. Silck texture, finishes short and bold. A good Hefe from Northern Germany.

(Bottle BB 113109): Pours a very pale yellow color body, somewhat cloudy. Small creamy whitish head. Lastingish. Banana aroma, some alcohol. Light fruit. Spiciness too. Banana and fruit taste. Light spiciness. A little too harsh for a typical hefeweizen. Somewhat malty taste.

Bottle. Pours with a large, foamy, slightly off-white head. Hazy golden body. Aroma is grassy, grainy, hay, wheaty, tree bark and very light banana esters. Taste is grainy and wheaty with very slight notes of vanilla and a light clove spice profile. Thin, slightly vinegary, and lively carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2010 Slightly hazy yellow. Fruity aroma, similar to a Belgian wheat. Taste is not too strong, but has a gentle touch of wheat. Out of the three I tried tonight, this was the best but thats not saying much. 2.5
RE-RATE 12/11/10 Bottle courtesy Fratto. Murky brownish gold appearance with a decent sized white head. Aroma smells strongly of sweet bread, fruit and rye. Flavor is grainy, bread, and fruit. Finishes slightly watery and bready. Little change.

Bottle, 500ml. Pours off-clear golden, with half-finger deep white head, that quickly dissipates to faint. A lot of banana on the nose, citrus and cloves on the palate. Slightly too watery on the palate for a hefe, though crisp enough with it.

Bottled 33cl. Appearance: Hazy orange. Average sized head. Some lacework. Aroma: Glue, overripe banana, vanilla and tobacco. Flavor and palate: Slightly sour. Hints of dried apricots, banana, herbs, vanilla and dust. Not much carbonation. Light bodied. Overall impression: Very interesting and atypical.

decaturstevo (5947) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - JAN 27, 2009
Aroma of vanilla and wheat. Slightly hazed gold pour. Vanilla and a very light bitter. Good carbonation light and slightly watery. Pretty good but not much like a hefe?

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy copper golden color with a medium frothy white head that lasts awhile. The aroma is banana, clove, wheat, and dry yeast. Good sticky lacing on the glass. The taste is a watery wheat malt with banana and a dry finish. A decent hefe from Flensburger.
