Pours black but still translucent with small white head. The aroma is sweet and malty with hints of cookie dough. The flavor is nicely balanced, with moments of sweetness followed by bitterness and sour. The mouth feel was a little chalky. Overall a decent porter. Bottle: Pours a black color, nice tan head. The nose is rich and creamy with a moderate roast character, some sweet chocolate and light coffee. The flavor is balanced, tangy and a bit like licorice. Now we’re getting somewhere! This Ybor pours a light hazed mahogany with a three-finger head that lasts as a thick, cream-colored film. Nutty aroma with touches of caramel, cereal, plum and (dare I say) chocolate. Mid-bodied and creamy with a bittersweet, fruity/nutty flavor. Pretty darn good, but it fails in it’s style category. Tell you what... let’s call this one "Ybor Gold Brown Ale" and it will not disappoint. (As far as the current Brown Ale... well... I for one won’t miss it.)

Typical deep brown pour and medium tan, fluffy head. Some chocolate and coffee notes, but my sample also had a slight sour/tart undertone in the finish that kept distracting me. A moderate hop bit in the finish as well...but that weird sour aftertaste again crept back in. It does noticably improve as it approaches room temperature, adding a smoky element and diminishing the sourness. What the hell, I’m giving it a couple more points.

Bottle. Pours dark almost black with a medium head. This beer definitely gets better when it warms up a bit. It develops aromas of chocolate that also dominate the flavor. A long lasting, creamy, light brown head tops this dark brown porter.
The aroma is nutty with some toasted, bready notes as well.
The flavor is dominated by sweet malt with very subtle coffee and chocolate. The body is light to medium and although this brew lacks some of the aspects of the better porters, this would go down extremely well in hot, humid Florida where the heavier flavored/bodied Porters may drag a bit. Decent head with a deep brown hue on the first glance. Holding it up to the light brings out a beautiful ruby-redness. And while the head eventually faded, the lace was still nice. Mouthfeel was surprisingly full and creamy, especially up front. Malts had a rich roastiness that merged well into a grassy hoppiness. Subtle hints of chocolate and coffee gave it a little depth. Perhaps a slight nip of smoke in the background, too. Well balanced, with a tame bitterness and only a pinch of caramel sweetness to speak of. Enjoyable porter. Pours deep brown with half inch tan head. Aroma is malt, syrup, coffee. Coffee comes out in the taste with hops in the background. Aftertaste is good, but overall taste is a little watery. Not bad, but taste needs to be more concentrated. Mangino (1027) - Mississippi, USA - MAR 26, 2006
Thanks to Degarth for sharing this one. Pousr a crimson color with a nice thick off whtie head. Lots of lacing. Aroma is the standard porter aroma, caramel, sweet on the nose. Flavor is sweet, not much flavor, a hint of brown sugar and caramel. And the smallest grassy hop kick. Overall nothing interesting here.
